The Environmental Engineering and Consulting team delivers solutions for complex environmental challenges using our regulatory expertise and implementing practical and cost-effective compliance management processes and programs. We address our clients' biggest concerns around permitting, ecoservices, assessment, and remediation.
Our highly trained and experienced engineers and scientists, environmental and remediation specialists, geologists, hydrogeologists, biologists, and environmental compliance specialists work with both public- and private-sector clients, delivering turnkey solutions.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Our Technical Editor position is located in Orlando, FL.
The Technical Editor role provides internal quality assurance reviews on the company's prepared documents related to grammar, sentence structure, clarity, conciseness, and company proprietary issues as well as compliance with the company's branding guidelines. The Administrative support role is to support the Operations Manager and Project Managers with various project tasks, including project set-up, Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) data entry, proposal and report editing and finalization, and marketing and customer service support.
This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
Review, format, and edit a variety of documents, including reports, proposals, technical memoranda, letters, cost estimate spreadsheets, procedures, manuals, and marketing and related materials
Comprehensive editing: reviews both content (for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate language) and form (for organization, visual design, and usability)
Copyediting: ensures that the document is mechanically correct (spelling, punctuation, and grammar) and stylistically consistent
Proofreading: compares the final version of the document with the marked-up version to make sure that all corrections have been made
Support writing and editing assignments as needed for business development and sales activities
Participate in the design and development of marketing brochures, conference materials, public relations announcements and other materials.
Create and uphold corporate standards for all documents including style guides for various Departments
Ensure documents meet editorial and customer specifications and adhere to standards for quality, graphics, format, and style.
Select or recommend use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, and illustrations or charts to amplify or clarify publication objectives.
Periodically review document templates to assess need for format or content updates.
Periodically create and deliver brief instructional presentations to staff on topics related to language, writing, or corporate style.
Remain current on new developments in technical writing, editing, and publishing, including technological enhancements that may affect the company.
Support operations through production of external reports, including formatting, binding, CD compilation, and shipping coordination.
Coordinate and submit security clearance for individual bases/locations for employees and subcontractors.
Assist staff as needed in various other operational and project-related tasks including data table generation and database entry.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

Thorough understanding of English grammar and technical editing standards

Ability to consistently maintain precise and accurate detail in document language and presentation
Ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines
Ability to work remotely and independently with minimal supervision/direction
Flexibility to adapt to changing document directives and deadlines
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Publisher, etc.
Experience using Salesforce preferred
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Degree in English, communications, technical writing, or related field strongly preferred
5 or more years of editing experience in a professional editing position, preferably with an engineering/consulting firm or similar
Travel
The position may involve travel as needed but is expected to be minimal
Physical Demands
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee may be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, and is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. He/she frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel. There may be occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor of supplies and materials weighing no more than 30 pounds. The work may involve some bending, standing or walking.
Work Environment
Normal office working conditions in a well-lit, climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
