Job Description:

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mid-Level Substation Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a Mid-Level Substation Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical substations. This position requires a solid understanding of substation equipment and systems, as well as the ability to work independently and mentor junior technicians.

Responsibilities:
1. Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and testing of electrical substations to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
2. Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues with substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, relays, switches, and control systems.
3. Conduct repairs and replacements of faulty components and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines and industry standards.
4. Perform advanced testing and calibration of substation devices and protective relays to ensure accurate operation and coordination.
5. Develop and execute maintenance plans and schedules to maximize substation availability and minimize downtime.
6. Supervise and mentor novice technicians, providing guidance and training to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.
7. Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement modifications, upgrades, or expansions of substation systems.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment logs, test reports, and inspection records.
9. Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.
10. Stay updated with the latest industry trends, regulations, and advancements in substation maintenance practices, and propose improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.


Requirements:
1. Associate degree or technical certification in electrical or power systems engineering, or equivalent work experience.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in substation maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
3. In-depth knowledge of substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, relays, switches, and control systems.
4. Proficiency in performing advanced testing and diagnostics using specialized equipment, such as power analyzers, relay test sets, and insulation resistance testers.
5. Strong understanding of electrical principles, safety practices, and applicable codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, NETA).
6. Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex issues and propose effective solutions.
8. Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment.
9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and communicate technical information clearly.
10. Physical fitness and ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, climbing, and working at heights.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
2. Experience with substation automation and SCADA systems.
3. Certification as a Substation Maintenance Technician or similar industry certifications.
4. Knowledge of relay programming and configuration.
5. Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis, documentation, and asset management.
