Your impact:

Good Housekeeping's Deputy Editor, Editorial Commerce will oversee editorial operations, manage freelancers and top-edit all Good Housekeeping Institute–created product-review content. This role requires a strong background in copy editing, deadline management and strategic editorial leadership. The ideal candidate will be adept at handling a high volume of daily content, assisting with content planning and leveraging data to enhance the integrity of the Institute’s testing processes while supporting our ambitious commerce goals across various verticals including home, appliances, health, beauty, tech and parenting.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Editorial Leadership: Manage GH Institute content operations, including editorial schedules, in-house and freelance assignments and overall production logistics. Oversee and guide editors and writers to ensure adherence to style guides and high standards of quality and accuracy.


  • Content Editing: Edit a wide range of content, from product listicles and long-form research articles to explainer pieces, ensuring clarity, accuracy and SEO optimization, highlighting Institute testing and product expertise in all content.


  • Freelancer Management: Oversee the team’s freelancer database, including acquisition, onboarding, pitches, assignments and budget management. Ensure smooth processes for contracts and payments.


  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with commerce, SEO and Lab teams to plan and develop editorial calendars. Develop action plans for breaking news on consumer alerts, trends, new products and other relevant developments.


  • Cross-team Collaboration: Work closely with Hearst’s central SEO and commerce teams to align content strategies and ensure cohesive content production. Facilitate effective communication across departments.


  • Content Innovation: Track performance of commerce content to identify growth opportunities. Develop improved content and promotion strategies for "best of the test" roundups, product reviews and consumer news to support affiliate commerce revenue.


  • Training: Lead quarterly team-wide training sessions on best editorial practices. Maintain detailed, shareable documentation and FAQs to streamline workflows and improve processes.


  • Deadline Enforcement: Ensure the timely execution of all editorial content, including managing freelance assignments and enforcing deadlines. Achieve 100% content completion on a monthly basis.


  • Diversity and Inclusion: Support efforts to diversify the voices and experiences reflected in our content and on our teams.

Qualifications:



  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in editorial roles, including at least 2 years in a senior editorial position. Experience in product review, lifestyle or home content is highly desirable.


  • Skills: Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Proficiency with content management systems and digital publishing tools.


  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage editorial teams with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A self-starter with a keen attention to detail, strong follow-through and effective bookkeeping.

The base salary for this role is between $83,000 and $100,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
