Job Description

This application is for a 6-month student role from January - June 2025. Resume review begins in October 2024.

Biogen's Gene Therapy Accelerator Unit (GTxAU) is driving innovation on both technology and drug discovery process fronts to accelerate gene therapies that may one day help transform the way we treat neurological diseases. As a co-op, you will provide experimental support to technology innovation work that supports novel virus-based gene delivery vector engineering with high unmet need. You will work closely at the bench with scientists in GTxAU performing in vitro assays and molecular biology studies.

Position Description

Detailed description of role including but not limited to:


  • Culture, maintain, and transfect mammalian cell lines for cell-based assays.

  • Perform small to middle-scale adeno-associated virus (AAV) production and purification.

  • Perform molecular biology experiments following established protocols including but not limited to RNA/DNA extraction, and PCR to support high-throughput screening workflow and AAV capsid discovery.

  • Maintain updated and organized electronic laboratory notebooks, present data to the team, and assist in generating study reports.

  • Help organize and maintain lab supplies.

Example projects may include:


  • Evaluation of novel AAV capsid performance using cell-based assays

  • Build complex DNA libraries for screening novel capsid candidates on cells or in animals

Qualifications


  • Wet-lab skills, including but not limited to cell culture and molecular biology techniques (e.g. cloning, qPCR, transfection).

  • Basic data analysis and visualization (e.g. Microsoft software, GraphPad Prism)

  • Good communication, willing to cooperate in a team setting

  • Quick learner

  • show strong attention to detail and strive to produce work of high quality

  • Passion in science and research

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:


  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university

Education


  • Undergraduate or Master's 

  • Neuroscience, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related majors

  • Molecular biology, biochemistry, and related courses
