Growth in the US West Transportation Market is a critical component of GHD's overall strategy in the Americas!

The US West Region is looking to bring onboard a motivated Business Development (BD) Lead for our Mobility and Places (MAP) Business Group to lead business development across Southern California to drive the expansion of GHD's MAP practice in the US West Region.

The MAP Business Group (BG) is one of the four key pillars of GHD's Transportation Market, which also includes Highways Roads Bridges, Maritime and Coastal, and Rail and Transit. The MAP BG provides transportation planning, traffic engineering, active transportation, urban planning, funding support, and landscape architecture services to Federal, State, municipal, and private clients across the western US, with a focus on California. The MAP BG is pivotal to client connection early in the project life cycle and is integral to balanced in-house expertise across transportation market service offerings.

The MAP BG is also at the heart of GHD's Future Communities enterprise-level strategic growth initiative. Future Communities integrates everything we do, so that together, with our clients, we can provide thriving places and spaces that put people first.

As the BD Lead for MAP, you will provide leadership for the pursuit of projects in the public and private sectors. You will also provide technical leadership for the delivery of projects for our clients throughout the US West. This position includes active participation in US West leadership and an opportunity to chart the course for strategic growth within the US West Region and the company. This position will be based out of one of our Southern California offices.

Specific responsibilities in this role will include:



Strategy and Business Planning

  • Support strategic business planning and budgeting
  • Participate in the development and execution of the growth strategy for the US West Transportation Market

Winning Work

  • Build and foster effective relationships with key clients across Southern California, with a focus on municipalities, counties, and transportation agencies in the greater LA area, San Diego area, and Inland Empire.
  • Collaborate with our MAP Business Group to help position for or support opportunities with Caltrans, as applicable
  • Collaborate with Regional Transportation Market Lead, other BD Leads, Sector Lead(s), and related BG's to implement appropriate business development, sales, and marketing strategies for MAP practice in So Cal
  • Participate in industry activities including conferences
  • Seamlessly collaborate with leadership and resources across GHD to bring solutions to local clients
  • Approval of job/scope of work packages, budgets, and progress in accordance with the GHD Limits of Authority
  • Accountability for new work bookings and opportunity pipeline

Operations

  • Accountability for project financial performance for personal projects
  • Work closely with Region Market Leaders and other BGLs to forecast market and trends and needs, to plan for training, recruitment, or technology gaps
  • Liaising with Talent Acquisition and manage the recruitment process and pipeline related to BD and key strategic talent needs
  • To identify, monitor, manage and mitigate risks within MAP in the market place

Project Delivery (limited):

  • Leading best practice project delivery, making key technical contributions to projects and coordinating the work of team members to deliver creative solutions
  • Purpose-led communications and engagement with Clients to enhance the Client Experience (CX)
  • Embracing established project management best practices and advocate for the adoption of standard methodologies within your sphere of influence at GHD
  • Directing the project teams, administering contractual aspects of the project, and having a client facing role
  • Working with project directors, project managers, project teams, and BGLs in other BG's to improve job delivery skills
  • Directing pricing, scoping and winning strategies for amendments and follow-on work
  • Accountable for resource management including allocation of people from other BGs providing delivery support to projects in Bridges BG
  • Ensure adherence to GHD's QA/QC plans including meeting established Quality KPIs

People:

  • Purpose-led communications with other Business Groups to inspire the team and enhance the Employee Experience (EX)
  • Develop and mentor senior leadership within the Business Group
  • Collaborate with and mentor our Young Professionals to provide experience and exposure to a wide variety of projects
  • Collaborate with Market Leaders, Service Line Leaders and Project Managers within and outside the Region on business development
  • Embrace the "One GHD" philosophy by collaborating with teams worldwide to share capabilities and project opportunities

Skills, Experience and Qualification:

  • Transportation planning / active transportation expertise
  • Minimum 20 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to develop, mentor and lead professional technical staff
  • Strong business development, capture planning, and marketing skills
  • Exceptional track record in client development and project execution for transportation projects
  • Strong relationship leadership skills and a real passion for developing people within GHD
  • Flexible and able to meet challenging deadlines
  • A self-starter with sound judgment and decisiveness
  • A standout colleague with a strong client focus
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
  • Experience and/or formal training with project management best practices

Salary Range: $225,000-255,000 based on experience. and location
