Description:

ATA Services Inc. is currently seeking to hire a Program Specialist to work on a temporary assignment with the City of Albuquerque - Albuquerque Police Department.

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Pay Rate: $18.76 per hour with weekly pay
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm on site
  • Location: 400 Roma Ave NW; Albuquerque, NM
  • Must pass background check and drug test

Position Summary:

The Albuquerque Police Department is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Program Specialist for Language Access to join the Language Access team to support efforts in ensuring effective communication for individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) and people who are Deaf and hard of hearing. The ideal candidate will assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating language access initiatives and services to foster inclusivity and promote equitable access to resources.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in designing and implementing language access initiatives to meet the needs of communities that communicate in languages other than English.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify barriers and develop strategic solutions.
  • Build relationships with community organizations, interpreters, and translators to enhance program visibility and accessibility.
  • Engage with the community to gather feedback and improve services.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating initiative’s effectiveness through data collection and analysis.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Create and distribute multilingual materials and resources to promote language access initiatives.
  • Identify funding opportunities and assist in grant writing to support program expansion.
  • Participate and provide input in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
  • Assist in coordinating language services in several languages.

Supplemental Functions:

  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the community and local programs.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Related education and lived experience experiencing linguistic and cultural barriers as part of an underrepresented group may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Linguistics, Communications, public administration, business administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Experience in project management, language access, or a related area.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of cultural dynamics.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred bilingual/multilingual.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Personal Qualities:

  • Passionate about equity and social justice.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in community outreach or advocacy work.
  • Knowledge of interpretation and translation services.
  • Familiarity with legal frameworks related to language access.
