The Therapeutics for Livestock Health group within Zoetis has the mission of identifying, validating, and testing novel approaches for prevention and treatment of cattle and swine diseases. We are seeking a talented and experienced biologist that can contribute to our research and development efforts at Zoetis. The successful candidate will partner across departments and project teams to conduct a broad range of experiments in order to develop in vivo models for hypothesis-based research and build robust testing funnels for substrate evaluation, encompassing a variety of therapeutic approaches. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for design, execution and reporting of studies.
The successful candidate will lead early research and in vivo translational efforts, teams and investigations that span a broad range of experimental modalities in livestock. The successful applicant will possess strong interpersonal, communication and project management skills, and will coordinate and lead multidisciplinary research teams that include scientists in clinical development, molecular biology, animal genetics, biotherapeutics and biometrics and serve as a liaison with key partners in technical services, marketing and sales.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop new animal models/surrogate endpoints
Prepare Animal Use Protocols
Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines
Is responsible for overall conduct of early research and in vivo translational studies in support of Veterinary Medicine Research & Development (VMRD) livestock (cattle/swine) research, i.e. budgeting, investigator/site selection, protocol development/writing, monitoring, report writing.
Ensure that studies are conducted in compliance with applicable requirements, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), corporate policies, and regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g., Good Clinical Practice and/or Good Laboratory Practice).
Generate and develop innovative research proposals for incorporation into the Zoetis research portfolio
Serve as project team leader for Livestock projects
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum
Educational background: PhD or MS with 5 years applicable research experience in animal science, cell biology, vaccinology, pharmacology, molecular biology or closely related field
Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to design, interpret, and present complex scientific data in a team environment is required
Preferred
DVM with 2-4 years of applicable research experience.
Experience in assisted reproductive technologies
Knowledge of current and preferred reproductive breeding programs in cattle
Direct experience with new target discovery and validation
Experience with in-feed product delivery
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Work environment: There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms
