Job Description:

Summary


This position will actively participate in select Life Reinsurance Accounting activities (financial, operational, information technology, data quality, internal control activities, treaty economic analysis), as well as, drive a variety of reinsurance modernization and financial operations activities. Individual will also be involved in Life Reinsurance new treaty set-up, process improvement reviews, project implementations, user acceptance testing, and coordination with external and internal auditors.


Organization


This position will initially report to the Director, Life Reinsurance Accounting and Administration. The nature of this detailed task orientated position will require working cooperatively with other operations, systems, finance, actuarial and risk management functions normally involved in the processes of reinsurance accounting.


Duties and Responsibilities


Life Reinsurance Accounting Activities:

  • Perform Life Reinsurance Accounting financial, operations, information technology, data quality, and internal control activities.
  • Assists with the monthly/quarterly financial statement close activities including, but not limited to, journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and analysis of reinsurance accounts.
  • Works with the Senior Reinsurance Accountant for feedback and process improvements.
  • Prepare and monitor Life treaty economic reviews for key reinsurance partners.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring key Life performance indicators to continuously assess the department's operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Perform continuous process enhancement reviews in order to identify, implement and maintain reliable, repeatable, sustainable, scalable and streamlined operations.
  • Assist in preparing Life internal, external, and reinsurer audit requests and activities.
  • Align department processes with customer needs; become a strategic finance business partner.
  • Maintain and / or enhance internal controls and sustain standard operating procedures
  • Other projects as assigned
Life Reinsurance Modernization, Financial Operations Transformation and New Treaty Set-up:
  • Participate in modernization and financial operation transformation projects.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Life reinsurance new treaty implementation processes.
  • Perform user acceptance testing for key reinsurance modernization efforts.
  • Contribute to modernization activities between a variety of F&G teams (IT, EPMO, etc.).
  • Test the effectiveness of procedures being documented by EXL.
  • Participate in the assessment of potential reinsurance system upgrades.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports regarding reinsurance modernization activities.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 1 - 3 years in Life reinsurance accounting and information technology.
  • Financial systems knowledge and familiarity with databases and complex excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of TAI a plus.
  • Reinsurance, insurance or financial services experienced preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Highly motivated, self-starter & team player with a high energy level & willingness to aggressively take on responsibility.
  • Be comfortable being uncomfortable when participating in new activities.
  • Strong computer knowledge including working knowledge of financial based accounting packages, spreadsheets and word processing software.
  • Able to work & effectively communicate with a variety of business partners.
  • Proficient in database and excel skills
  • Strong verbal and writing skills
  • Excellent analytic skills and detail oriented.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to achieving goals.
  • Support effective partnerships with key individuals and have strong collaboration skills.
  • Able to produce in a fast-paced environment while effectively addressing multiple responsibilities.
  • Champion process improvement and automation activities.
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis.
