Overview

The Product Engineer provides product design and development services, including product definition, design conceptualization, project level development and prototyping management, preventive activities, validation, product launch, and post launch support. This role is an integral part of developing new revenue streams through new products as well as supporting the manufacturing of existing product in the most efficient and to the highest quality.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Provide product development services for new custom and standard products
  • Work with sales, customers and staff to define scope of project and product.
  • Apply analytical techniques to develop sound design concepts.
  • Provide design services, including design conceptualization, component and assembly models in CAD.
  • Track and communicate progress.
  • Develop suitable product data for product realization.
  • Validate product against requirements
  • Track projected costs against budgets and production cost targets
  • Develop Design FMEA for product
  • Develop validation plan for product
  • Conduct or coordinate product validation, including external certifications when applicable.
  • Improve product design for increased performance and functionality.
  • Project management for an engineering-related project such as budgeting and managing project costs, scheduling project phases, purchasing materials, allocating resources, assigning tasks and evaluating team progress

Other Duties:

  • Provide technical support for product support and/or maintenance
  • Guide and train production staff
  • Assist sales in customer training and application engineering
  • Evaluate or assist in the evaluation of returned goods.
  • Work with production personnel to develop or recommend suitable processes for product assembly, testing, marking, and packaging
  • Diagnose and address producability issues as they relate to mechanical design (drawing interpretation, tolerance stacks, processing drawing changes).


Qualifications



Education / Experience:

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
  • Minimum of 6 months relevant product development experience (automation industry experience preferred); experience gained through a co-op or intern program is acceptable

Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced skills in engineering techniques and technical writing.
  • Completes and constructs technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of engineering terms and standard engineering techniques.
  • Intermediate command of communication protocols.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to create and edit 3D CAD and 2D drawings.(Solidworks)
