Job Title:Perfusionist - Ross | PerfusionDepartment:Ross | PerfusionJob DescriptionScope of Position:The Perfusion Services Division is responsible for providing extracoporeal support for patients undergoing cardiac surgery procedures. The division is responsible for providing short and long term mechanical circulatory support of patients in the operating room and intensive care setting on devices ranging from the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) up to the Total Artificial Heart (TAH). The division is actively involved in the care of patients with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to include initiation as well as daily monitoring and troubleshooting. The program plans to add ECMO transport services in the near future. Currently the team is involved with XVIVO Lung recovery for the lung transplant program as well the Transmedic organ procurement program for cardiac transplantation. Perfusion Services also provides support for liver transplantation and other surgical procedures requiring intraoperative autotransfusion cell salvage. Perfusionists in the program assist in intraoperative chemotherapeutic procedures, left heart bypass, and various intraoperative monitoring and diagnostic procedures in the operating room environment. The division's normal staffing hours are 0630- 1900, Monday through Friday, except official university holidays. Support from the division is available on a 24 hour basis outside of normal staffing hours on an on-call basis. In addition, we provide 24/7 in-house coverage for the ECMO program which has supported greater than 100 patients in each of the previous four years.Position Summary:The Perfusionist provides extracorporeal circulatory support procedures for patients principally in the operating room or intensive care setting. Additionally, the Perfusionist provides a variety of support procedures throughout the entire medical center complex. Perform ancillary duties associated with various programs supported by Perfusion Services. Some of the call duties will require the Perfusionist to travel for organ procurement or ECMO transport.Minimum Education RequiredBachelor's Level DegreeRequired QualificationsBachelor of Science in Allied Health with training in cardiovascular perfusion, monitoring instrumentation, and organ preservation. Certification eligible required. On going: Demonstrates competence and growth in technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.Desired QualificationsECMO experience in setting-up, priming, insertions, rounding, and transport. Experience with complex cardiac surgical procedures and transplantation. Experience with XVIVO and Transmedic systems.
