While the Department of Student Involvement has a healthy number of established programs and initiatives, there is a tremendous opportunity to help make something new. The Department of Student Involvement (DSI) serves within the division of Student Affairs here at the University of Idaho. DSIs primary task is to plan, coordinate and implement campus activities for the students of the University of Idaho. Within DSI rests several smaller departments and programs/initiatives charged with also providing more focused events and experiences for our students. These departments/programs include Esports, Leadership Programs, the Food Pantry, The Student Sustainability Cooperative, Vandal Entertainment, Student Marketing, Student Clubs and Organizations and the Associated Students of the University of Idaho or student government (ASUI).

DSIs primary purpose is to increase student retention and success by providing opportunities for students to find communities of students with shared interests and passions within the greater Vandal family. By providing opportunities to have fun while networking and practicing leadership, we help to round out the vandal experience to be completer and more holistic. We strive to make the University of Idaho not just a place but a home for all students.

The department culture itself is very collaborative and requires strong teamwork and good communication. We believe in working hard and playing hard but also balancing that with a belief in self-care. No one is an island in and of themselves and our personal and professional lives always overlap. Knowing this we make sure to encourage individuals to take their leave, and to do what they must to be their best selves at work and at home. We love a good laugh, the director believes that its easier to overcome something if you can laugh, though there are times when no one seems to laugh at his obviously hilarious jokesit must be everyone elses fault. There is also a strong undercurrent of autonomy. One must be self-driven as micromanagement is neither practiced nor encouraged as we believe it stifles creativity and energy.

Our department has a tremendous amount of student interaction, through advising and supervising many student positions. We approach both with an educational mindset and derive tremendous energy from our students successes.
