Job Description:

Brown University's Pre-College Program is a leader in the field of higher education institutions that provide rigorous academic opportunities to students. These programs offer students an opportunity to study a wide range of liberal arts subjects that reflect the breadth of Brown's undergraduate open curriculum while strengthening their connection to a robust community of peer scholars from around the world. Students develop personal and social skills critical to success in the college setting and get a feel for college life - the responsibility, the freedom, and the new friendships.

The Student Life Coordinator is a member of the Pre-College Student Life team within the Division of Pre College and Undergraduate Programs, which is dedicated to ensuring a supportive, challenging, inclusive, and equitable living and learning environment for program participants (ages 14-18 years old) over the course of the summer who hail from all fifty US states and over 70 countries.

Each summer, the Division hires over 250 Pre-College Student Life seasonal staff to support students living residentially while they take classes in the pre-college programs. Staffing includes seasonal professional staff, graduate students studying Student Affairs, Counseling, or other relevant subjects, and college-aged students who attend a range of higher education institutions across the country. These positions support housing operations and safety, programming both in and out of the residence halls, and creating a living-learning community for all residents.

Each week, the pre-college programs are in session, and there are between 700 and 3000 pre-college students on campus. When not in class, completing out-of-class work, eating, or sleeping, Pre-College students have significant freedom to determine how they want to spend their time. The Student Life team develops a significant roster of programming to support developmentally appropriate growth and learning among this population. That programming includes activities that occur within the residence halls, campus-wide activities available to all students currently in attendance, as well as off-campus excursions. The Student Life Coordinator must ensure that all of the administrative tasks are completed accurately, successfully, and in a timely manner, as it is critical to the success of summer programming.

The planning for and implementation of the pre-college programs are fast-moving and fluid. The division's shared goals of safety, support, and excellent learning mean that each staff member plays a critical role in the program's success. This success includes timely, effective, and supportive responses to the needs of staff, students, and families.

Reporting to the Director of Pre-College Student Life, the Pre-College Student Life Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day administrative and operational logistics of the Student Life team. From September to May, the primary focus of the position is to provide administrative support for creating educational workshops, residential programming, and community-building events and hiring more than 250 seasonal staff members who supervise and care for the young people living on Brown's campus. During the summer months, the primary focus of the position is to assist with Student Life operational support on-campus, including supervising student staff, supply management, time tracking and reporting, and providing payroll support for seasonal staff while contributing to a high level of customer service for the students, parents, and families who interact with all members of the Pre-College Student Life team.
