Summary of Duties:


The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking to hire a Senior Director and College Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join a highly functional team that includes an Associate Director for Finance, a Director for Information Technology and an Assistant Director of Facilities and Support Operations. As the CFO you will be a member of the College Leadership Team and report directly to the Dean. You will be responsible for the overall management of the financial, administrative and, in collaboration with our senior human resources partner, personnel support functions for the CVM. As the CFO you have the opportunity to develop and implement policies and programs aligned with our new CVM Strategic Plan. You will serve as the principal consultant and advisor to the Dean, as well as a college liaison to central administration on all financial issues.



The CVM is dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people at home and around the world through enhancing health and wellbeing. As the only veterinary school in the state of Washington, CVM is a complex organization of five major Departments/Schools, a veterinary teaching hospital, and an animal disease diagnostic lab, all of whom have their own financial staff that liaise with our college finance team. We have a large capital space and physical profile on multiple campuses and across multiple continents, with 1,000+ employees and approximately $118 million in annual expenditures. In addition to training excellent veterinarians, the college is unique among veterinary schools with strong undergraduate teaching programs and host cutting edge biomedical research programs.

This position works on-site on the WSU Pullman campus.




Required Qualifications:




  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related field with an accounting emphasis and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and business management which has included supervisory and facilities management experience. A Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related field and/or CPA certification may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.




  • Demonstrated ability to provide financial information to support decision-making at strategic levels for a complex organization.




  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex budget/accounting and business processes.




  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a challenging environment while meeting required deadlines.




  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with Workday, a cloud-based ERP solution and other related financial, human resources, management, and administrative software systems.




  • Ability to think strategically and implement changes to support and improve activities of the college.




  • Ability to consider alternative and diverse perspectives and remain poised under all circumstances.




  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and interact effectively with people in a manner that engenders confidence and trust.







Preferred Qualifications:




  • Advanced degree or professional accreditation in business or accounting administration or related field.




  • Thorough knowledge of budget management, projections, and reporting at college, university, or to external agencies.




  • Knowledge and experience with WSU business and financial systems.




  • Demonstrated experience administering higher education fund-based accounting in changing software and policy environments.




  • Collaborative experience understanding and implementing use of project management applications.

Monthly Salary:


$10,416.67 - $13,333.33 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications.



In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
