Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PT Librarian for Las Positas College.

Applicants will be expected to provide instructional services in: Library skills, Library orientation, Information literacy.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Use instructional skills, as well as knowledge of academic library operations and information literacy, to assist patrons at the reference desk (both in-person and online);

2. Work successfully with students, faculty, and staff from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, nontraditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with learning differences in an academic setting;

3. Teach library orientations, specialized topic workshops, or Library Skills courses;

4. Create online tutorials and instructional materials;

5. Participate in outreach to faculty and departments;

6. Select and deselect materials as part of the collection development plan;

7. Engage in student and faculty centered activities;

8. Support the College and Library strategic priorities related to student success and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's in library science, library and information science, OR the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Ability to develop and deliver effective and efficient instructional services, including workshops, information literacy instruction, online tutorials and guides, and other teaching and learning activities;

2. Ability to provide reference assistance in person and virtually; assisting students and faculty in locating appropriate credible resources, citing sources, etc.;

3. Demonstrated experience creating and utilizing multimodal instructional materials, for example, online research guides, instructional videos, and/or other digital resources, to enhance student learning and engagement;

4. Willingness to stay up-to-date and improve knowledge and skills pertaining to user needs and trends in academic libraries, information tools and resources, emerging trends in teaching and learning, instructional design, accessibility, and related fields;

5. Collaborative approach with faculty regarding designing student assignments, collection needs, and integration of appropriate library resources and information literacy into the college curriculum;

6. Enthusiastic approach to effective outreach and promotion of library resources and services to faculty, students, and campus groups;

7. Desire to foster strong and collaborative relationships with librarians, faculty, students, and staff in support of teaching, learning, and research;

8. Ability to collaborate with faculty and librarians to assess and develop high-quality digital and print collections that support the college's curriculum;

9. Experience in cataloging and technical services;

10. Experience in automated library systems;

11. Willingness and availability to attend and actively participate in team meetings and committees;

12. Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills;

13. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

14. Availability to work days, evenings, and weekends and the ability to cover shifts as needed to ensure consistent library service.
