Job Description:

The Global Commerce program at Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in Fall 2025. We are seeking a scholar who can contribute to our Global Commerce program by developing new courses exploring organizational leadership. These courses will explore the interplay of leadership and organizations broadly from within a liberal arts perspective; thus, they will explore ethical issues, as well as principles, theories, and styles of leadership. Our new colleague will also contribute to the Organizational Studies program. A PhD with academic training in organizational behavior, organizational development, organizational management, organizational leadership, sociology, psychology, or related fields is required by the time of appointment. Individuals who identify with backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in higher education are encouraged to apply.

Global Commerce is an interdisciplinary major that trains students to think critically and creatively about how global exchanges of goods, services, information, and money shape and are shaped by a wide variety of economic, political, cultural, social, and environmental factors. By integrating curricular and co-curricular experiences, the major enables our students both to understand the dynamics of global commerce and to put this understanding into practice. The successful candidate will be interested in integrating global perspectives into their teaching. Organizational Studies is an interdisciplinary program that trains students to think critically and creatively about organizational dynamics, strategy, and leadership. Like Global Commerce, this program also integrates classroom and experiential learning.

The teaching load is 5 courses per year, the largest of which is capped at 25 students. Courses taught will include several Global Commerce Core Courses; preference will be given to those who can teach Quantitative Methods for Global Commerce. (For details on the Global Commerce curriculum, please see: https://denison.edu/academics/global-commerce.) The successful candidate will also teach courses related to organizational development and leadership that would contribute to the Organizational Studies program. (For details on the Organizational Studies curriculum, please see: https://denison.edu/academics/organizational-studies.) Denison is a fully residential campus, and all classes are held in-person and on-campus. Additionally, the teaching load includes an expectation of mentoring interdisciplinary undergraduate research.

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in liberal arts teaching at the undergraduate level and a desire to contribute to the development of both the Global Commerce major and Organizational Studies program. We seek to hire a colleague whose research perspective complements those currently represented in the Department.

Successful candidates are expected to maintain an ongoing research agenda; thus, applicants should show promise of a strong publication record. Additional work experience in the business or non-profit sectors is strongly desired as a complement to academic expertise. Contributions to the life of the department, institution, and the larger community are an essential part of Denison's mission. We anticipate our new colleague will regularly engage in service activities within these communities.
