Job Description


PURPOSE AND SCOPE:


The PT Director, Theater and Stage Production is responsible for coordinating and managing the technical and operational aspects of the Fine Arts facilities with a primary focus on the technical infrastructure, systems, and equipment. Oversees and ensures appropriate maintenance and operation of performance related equipment and infrastructure. Provides highly technical support and expertise as well as completing repairs, installations and building of equipment and systems.







ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


    Perform full scale theatrical scenic, lighting, sound, and graphic design for drama shows and concerts

    Repair and maintain the extensive and technically advanced lighting, sound equipment, and audio systems in LSC's Theatres.

    Train workers and student assistants in implementing designs (construction of scenery, hanging/focusing lighting, etc.)

    Coordinate and assist in the design and construction of drama sets and scenery, including management and supervision of the scene shop

    Ensure that equipment and systems are kept secure and in good repair

    Act as the professional point of contact for theatrical design and technological expertise for outside groups and venues including community-based organizations, local high schools, and sister colleges.

    Enforce the safety and security regulations to protect the safety of students, faculty, and visitors to the theatre

    Assist in production analysis by reading scripts and plays of upcoming productions and analyzing possible production designs and requirements

    Provide continued research for technology development to enhance not only the aesthetic of productions but also to assist in creating a cost saving green theatrical space

    Assist with the organization and scheduling of all department events and help with external events in the theater

    Interact with students interested in the technical aspects of the Theatre and provide them with a more detailed experience with the equipment and technology

    Attend technical week rehearsals and assist in the technical aspects of mounting the show

    Assist with the preparation and control of production budgets, maintain inventory, and order specialized supplies

    Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned









KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


    Knowledge of design installation, operation of sound and lighting systems; Lighting and technical rigging including electronics; Equipment set-up, operation, and maintenance; Basic fire and safety codes; Set design and construction; Technology applications; Musical and stage in entertainment production techniques and requirements

    Ability to coordinate multi-use facilities; Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; Install equipment; Supervise the work of others; Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties

    In-depth knowledge of performing arts in general and an ability to work effectively with all the disciplines of music and drama

    Experience in scene design and construction (including journey-level skills in carpentry), lighting design and operation, sound design and operation, rigging, good fundamental knowledge of electrical equipment, special effects, theater equipment/facility maintenance

    Basic knowledge of contracts, budgets and accounting is also desired as well as a knowledge of computers and good communication and interpersonal skills









WORK ENVIRONMENT:


    Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, other general office equipment, scanner, point of sale machine, and state of the art lighting equipment and sound equipment

    Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

    Work is performed in a climate-controlled theater environment with exposure to safety hazards typical with use of theater production equipment and tools

    Extended work hours, including nights and weekends, may be required during peak production times









PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.








REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience



  • Specialization in theater/stage production and/or lighting and sound









PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Some college hours in drama with emphasis in technical theater

  • Experience in theater management, technical operations and scheduling programs and events with a campus or performing arts facility



Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $26.34.
