Job Description Summary


This position's primary function is to facilitate, promote, and ensure good clinical practice in the conduct of all research protocols in the Department/Center. Independently manages different phases of complex clinical trials and mentors Coordinators and Research Assistants. Works with partnering institutions and creates multi-center budgets and manages expenses. Participates in study team meetings, disease site group meetings, and ongoing protocol training/compliance meetings. Supports in the monitoring of external sites and assists in the management of multisite trials. Adheres to all University and other regulatory guidelines.




Job Description




The Clinical Research Coordinator will work as part of an integrated, dynamic and fast moving team in the Center for Cytokine Storm Treatment & Laboratory (CSTL) that is focused on improving understanding and treatment of Castleman disease, a rare and deadly inflammatory disease. To achieve this goal, the CSTL is conducting an international patient registry / natural history study, and we are recruiting an individual who is interested in gaining exposure to the medical field through in-depth review of medical data on complex patients. The Clinical Research Coordinator's primary responsibilities will involve identifying, interpreting and extracting key medical record data into the registry database from patients in the U.S. and integrating multiple data sources to assess response to therapies, adverse events, and clinical courses, in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and Associate Director. They may also be responsible for reviewing patient hematopathology and selecting lymph node slides for the study Certification and Access Subcommittee. They will occasionally interact directly with Castleman disease patients, manage data extraction protocols, track metrics, prepare tables, graphs and descriptive summaries of data for presentations, progress reports, grant applications and manuscripts. They may also be expected to initiate and independently drive forward other projects in the CSTL, such as analyzing immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, or in situ hybridization or contributing to studies related to hematopathology.


Candidates must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail; willingness to take initiative; ability to work independently but also know when to seek help, and to work as part of a fast paced and integrated team. The individual must possess strong decision making skills and the ability to work uninterrupted on a focused project. Experience reviewing medical records is a plus but not required.


Qualifications


  • BS degree and 2-3 years of experience plus additional relevant data management or data analysis experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required

  • Strong computer skills and experience including database management, MS Excel, and PowerPoint required. Experience creating and modifying relational databases. Experience with medical coding (Medra, WHO-DDE) and with patient registries is a plus.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes, and familiarity with Castleman disease and/or oncology clinical information and research is desirable.

  • High level of attention to detail, organizational skills and commitment to accuracy is required. Interest in performing repetitive data entry.

  • Possess good data entry methodologies that ensure accurate and precise data entry and monitoring.

  • Comfort in an “iterative environment” in which periodic rework is inevitable

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong work ethic

  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
