College/Department Overview

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 21 undergraduate majors and 29 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). Position Overview

Teaches, advises, and supervises students; evaluates student performance; and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. This position is a full-time, tenure-track position and will begin January 2025 (spring semester).



Department Specific Essential Job Functions

The Department of Psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to be filled by a clinical or counseling psychologist who has an earned doctorate and experience using evidence-based psychological practices in their clinical work. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in our MPCAC-accredited Counseling Psychology master's program, which leads to mental health licensure at the master's level (see more information on this website, including our detailed program handbook: https://www.uco.edu/programs/jcgs/ceps/psychology/counseling). The teaching assignment may include undergraduate and graduate (master's level) psychology courses in specialty areas and other service courses as needed. Instruction in courses may require a variety of formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online) and teaching day and evening courses. Additional responsibilities include supervising graduate students in a clinical setting in the Counseling Psychology master's program, involving students in research, serving on committees, and advising. UCO is a metropolitan university with a focus on undergraduate education and scholarship.



Qualifications/Experience Required:

An earned doctorate degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program, along with completion of an APA approved clinical or counseling psychology internship. Candidates should be either licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in Oklahoma and be willing to provide clinical supervision to graduate students seeing clients in the UCO Psychology Clinic, an on-site training clinic.



Qualifications/Experience Preferred:


The successful candidate will have a clinical science orientation, a commitment to training students in evidence-based treatment and assessment, and a commitment to mentoring students. Teaching experience in higher education and a record of scholarship are also highly preferred. The salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.

Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with other faculty and staff. Reports to the Counseling Psychology Program Coordinator, Chair of the Department, and the Dean of the College.
