The Water Resources Institute facilitates an innovative network of programs, researchers, partners, facilities, and services to build a nationally recognized center at the forefront of interdisciplinary water-related research, innovation, education, and community outreach.
The Water Resources Institute seeks an administrative Director of Research (DR) who will work closely with our faculty director to provide institute leadership as we develop and grow work in the areas of water prediction, water data science, risk communication, climate resiliency planning, and solutions development. Contribute to growing and sustaining the Institute's research enterprise through the development of new initiatives, leadership of complex multi-investigator research projects, overseeing research teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality research products. Develop and implement research development strategies, seeking external funding, conducting research, managing projects, forging partnerships, and communication the institute's work to broad audiences. Collaborate with the faculty director on matters of business development and finance for the Institute and with internal and external stakeholders, serving as a key point of contact for the Institute and providing recommendations to the Institute's stakeholders related to water science, policy, equity, and sustainability.
Doctoral degree in Water Resource Science or Engineering, Earth System Science, Computational Social Sciences, or Data Science with at least 5 years of research project management experience and a demonstrated track record of securing externally-funded research from federal funding agencies or industry. Working knowledge of water prediction models and publically available water data.Successful candidates will fulfill the following requirements:· Management skills: prior management of teams and knowledge of organizational behavior and culture· Leadership: experience leading project development and coordinating diverse teams· Experience working with academic researchers and/or public agency staff· Familiarity with federally-mandated research compliance practices· Awareness of emerging technologies for water systems measurement and remote sensing· Demonstrated familiarity with equity and justice considerations related to water resources; commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and knowledge of inclusive behaviors and practices
110,000 - 135,000/year
This is a two-year grant-supported appointment with renewals contingent upon success in securing external funding.
A probationary period may be required, Contingent on continued funding, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy, Background Check required for this position
