Job Summary


Under the supervision of the Vice-President of Academic and Student Affairs (VPA&SA), the Dean of Health Sciences works collaboratively with the VPA&SA, Department Chairs, Program Managers, and other stakeholders across campus to provide leadership and support for innovation and excellence in teaching, learning, assessment, and student success at College of Eastern Idaho. The Dean will respond adaptively and with flexibility to ensure operational effectiveness within the Health Sciences (HS) division in order to increase the numbers of students in HS programs, improve faculty and staff capacity across a broad range of division activities and programs, including scheduling, supporting student learning, integration of systems, developing new programs, assessment, accreditation, instructional simulations, policy development, exploring new opportunities, and ongoing curriculum development to continue the viability of programs.


The division currently includes programs in Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Specialist, Phlebotomy, Practical Nursing, Registered Nursing, Surgical Technology, and Health Physics Technology. An integral part of this position will be to explore and expand programs in the Health Sciences Division to meet the needs of business and industry in region six of Idaho.


This position has been identified as being capable of performing job duties in a hybrid work setting. (Hybrid refers to a blend of work performed at a CEI facility and remotely during any given work week.)

Typical Job Functions



  • Advocates for faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders in the mission of the College of Eastern Idaho

  • Builds close relationships with business, industry, and educational leaders in the region to ensure that CEI is offering programs that best meet the needs of the community

  • Develops outside relationships that result in the donation of equipment, capital funding, student clinicals/internships and student scholarships

  • Coordinates and administers scheduling of classes and teaching assignments for faculty

  • Monitors enrollment patterns, cost/benefit information, employment and other development and needed changes

  • Develops processes to improve enrollment/transfer and job placement to reduce time to degree and improve student satisfaction

  • Plans, organizes, and monitors expenditures of Health Sciences Division's budgets

  • Hires qualified faculty and provides professional development

  • Sits on the Academic Standards Committee as a voting member

  • Provides leadership in program and department accreditations and reports

  • Regularly evaluates faculty, department chairs, and classified staff reporting directly to this position

  • Researches and designs new program offerings and instructional technologies

  • Participates in institutional accreditation activities


Instructional Leadership

  • Advocates and represents the department on committees, councils, and task-forces at the college, local, and, as needed, state level

  • Participates with Instructional leadership in policy formulation related to instructional programs, curriculum development, delivery of credit student development, and administrative services

  • Ensures that assessment program review and specialized accreditations for programs are completed in a timely manner according to the requirements of the assessment cycle


Collaboration

  • Maintains a good working relationship with the Idaho State Board of Education

  • Develops, maintains, and promotes articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities

  • Develops opportunities for delivery of classes and programs in rural Idaho areas

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

  • Collaborates with Dean of Early College to promote and provide courses and programs through Dual Credit

  • Collaborates with Workforce Training to align courses and/or programs where appropriate



Minimum Qualifications



  • Master's degree from an accredited college in a teaching discipline, education, educational administration/management, or healthcare field

  • Three (3) years of leadership and administrative experience in educational leadership or demonstrated equivalency

  • Three (3) academic years or the equivalent of post-secondary classroom teaching

  • Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills

  • Incumbent must reside in the State of Idaho (Currently CEI doesn't sponsor H-1B Visas)



Additional Desired Qualifications


  • Community college or two-year technical college experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare education in Idaho

  • Experience with professional accrediting bodies

  • Experience in supervising faculty and staff in daily divisional operations, budget management and program coordination

  • Training or demonstrated experience in the following areas: management, organizational development, teaching and learning, revenue generation, policy development, and working with college transfer programs

  • Bilingual (Spanish)

    Sitting, standing, walking, keyboarding, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, gross manipulations (involves hands) and standing or sitting (combination). Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.

    Onsite work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required. Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.


    Background Investigations:


    Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225:
