Description
The Quality Engineer at Armstrong International is responsible for ensuring that products meet company standards for safety, durability, and performance. This role involves implementing quality control processes, conducting inspections, and working with cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality issues. The Quality Engineer will play a key role in continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring that products align with both customer and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
•Develop and implement quality assurance processes and testing protocols to ensure that products meet specifications and industry standards.
•Identify areas for improvement within the manufacturing process and lead initiatives aimed at reducing defects, improving product consistency, and increasing efficiency.
•Conduct inspections and tests on raw materials, components, and finished products, using a variety of measurement tools and techniques.
•Investigate quality issues, conduct root cause analysis, and collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve problems and prevent future occurrences.
•Ensure that all products and processes comply with relevant quality, safety, and regulatory standards (ISO, ASME, etc.).
•Maintain accurate documentation of quality control processes, inspection results, and non-conformance reports. Ensure that all records are up to date and in compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
•Collaborate with suppliers to establish quality requirements for raw materials and components, and conduct supplier audits when necessary.
•Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
•Provide training to production staff on quality control procedures, product standards, and the use of quality measurement tools.
•Address customer complaints and quality issues by working closely with customer service, identifying problem areas, and developing corrective action plans.
•Track quality metrics (e.g., defect rates, scrap rates, rework), analyze data, and report findings to management with recommendations for improvement.
•Willingness to learn or train in the position.
•Must have the physical and mental stamina to stand, walk, lift, and adjust to the noise and lighting of the manufacturing environment.
•Other duties as assigned and not limited to just the above.
Key Requirements
•Proficiency in quality assurance tools and techniques such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Root Cause Analysis and PPAP approval process.
•Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (ISO 9001, ASME, ASTM, etc.).
•Experience with measurement and testing equipment (calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines, etc.).
•Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related field.
•5-10 years of experience in quality engineering, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
