The Buyer - Direct and Indirect Materials and Services will be responsible for the procurement of direct materials (such as plastics and resins) as well as indirect products, materials, and services. This role supports both manufacturing and service operations, ensuring procurement activities meet cost, quality, and delivery targets.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in global supplier management, preferably in pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing, and strong experience in the procurement of plastics and resins. The Buyer will play a key role in supplier relationship management, negotiations, and driving continuous improvement in alignment with company policies and cGMP standards.
Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a procurement role in a cGMP environment involving both direct and indirect materials (BOM), products, supplies, and services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PROCUREMENT PLAN EXECUTION
Participate in the implementation of the procurement plan and operative programs for assigned product and service categories to achieve relevant targets in alignment with procurement strategy.
PROCUREMENT PROCESS MANAGEMENT
Conduct procurement processes and negotiations management within established spending limits.
Manage purchase orders for product and service categories to ensure high service levels regarding volume, delivery date, quality, and cost.
Collaborate with Quality, R&D, and Operations Teams for product specifications and requirements.
Conduct requests for quotation and analyze offers from suppliers to select the best options.
Monitor the procurement process, identify critical issues, and propose improvement areas.
SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT
Negotiate sourcing agreements and build effective partnerships in alignment with corporate guidelines.
Monitor supplier processes for service and reliability alongside the Quality team.
Manage deviations and disputes with suppliers, collaborating with key functional teams.
Scout for new suppliers and propose new supply relationships for approval.
Participate in the supplier qualification process with Quality.
MONITORING AND REPORTING
Evaluate market trends and benchmarks, monitor activity progressions, and propose improvements to achieve KPI targets.
BUDGET MANAGEMENT
Provide budget proposals and manage the assigned budget effectively.
GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES
Actively participate in defining and updating procedures and guidelines, ensuring high-level maintenance of applicable standards.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Manage assigned projects, support the SG4D approach, and monitor execution per project plans.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Communicate effectively with internal leaders and stakeholders to build awareness of procurement processes and targets.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF JOB
SAFETY
Ensure team compliance with all safety requirements to promote a Safety-First culture.
Use required PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and gowning in designated areas.
Tasks may include standing, walking, bending, and sitting.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Complete internal QMS training and relevant training on IT tools (i.e., ERP, Office, company applications).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Job is located onsite. Off-shift support may be required periodically to meet business needs.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL COMPETENCES
Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience in a procurement role supporting direct and indirect purchasing.
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or economics.
Knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, project management techniques, and applicable standards (ISO, cGMP, FDA CFRs).
Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
Experience with ERP systems and budget management.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
