Economic Research Associate Overview

The Economic Research Associates position is an entry level economics research job position for recently graduated (Spring or Summer 2024) students with a major in Economics. As an Economic Research Associate you will provide research support to the firm's economists. The research support includes activities such as reviewing documents, analyzing economic and financial information, constructing Excel spreadsheets, performing STATA program data tabulations, and assisting in the drafting of summaries and work products.

The successful candidate will go through a 3 month training period. During this period, the Economic Research Associate will be introduced to our work, work processes, and introduced to the economic research that we perform. The activities performed will include shadowing our economists, data collection, reviewing and summarizing relevant documents, and taking and completing beginning level statistical programming courses online.

After the completion of the training period, you will be required to become proficient with the use of a statistical programming language (STATA, Python, R, etc.), including construction of large datasets, statistical tabulations of data, and intermediate level computer programming. Your day-to-day activities will include reviewing and analyzing documents and data, creating and manipulating large analysis data sets, writing computer software code to convert various types of data into a usable format, performing statistical calculations of big data, assisting in the calculation of economic damages in litigation, and taking part in conference calls with the firm's clients.

  • A flexible person who needs to be very comfortable with working closely with other professionals in a close knit environment.
  • A person who can be self directed and also take direction.
  • Have an aptitude for and understanding of basic computer software programming routine.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and have superior analytical and writing skills.

Requirements
  • Work physically in our Houston office 5 days a week (Monday to Friday)
  • Must already live in the Houston area or living in Texas and willing to relocate immediately
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics
  • Minor in Math or Computer Science is a plus
  • References and/or past writing samples a plus
  • Some experience with using statistical programs such as STATA
  • Some experience with using and creating Excel computer spreadsheets
