Idea Financial is hiring a Senior Underwriter to join the Credit & Operations team. This role will report to the Director of Underwriter and be based out of the Richmond, VA office. Underwriters are at the front lines of helping businesses get the financing they need when they need it. From reviewing completed business applications to ensure that our customers receive appropriate financing options to identifying and mitigating risk in our processes, Underwriters are crucial to the success and growth of Idea Financial.

Responsibilities: • This position independently analyzes and underwrites credit requests for prospects and customers for Lines of Credit and Term Loans. • Ability to review and analyze Financial Statements and Tax Returns. • Review all aspects of 3rdParty Credit reports on both the Business and the Guarantor, including Lexis Nexis, Equifax, Experian, Paynet and Clear. • Applies underwriting guidelines and standards within credit authority. • Ability to make decisions on files with minimal supervision. • Perform detailed risk analysis, making decisions based on your findings. • Verify gathered business documents during the underwriting processes such as financial, identification, or formation documentation. • In-depth understanding of bank statements, seasonality, and industry trends. • Prepare and/or review the completion of credit approval memorandums. Must have strong written and oral skills. • Ability to prevent and detect fraudulent applications. • Assure that the loan package complies with credit, underwriting standards. • Must be able to think independently and provide creative financing solutions.
Requirements: • Small Business Lending experience required with credit authority preferred • BS degree, concentration in Business, Finance, or Economics • Five years' experience in Small Business Lending; SBA, Factoring or Alternative lending experience required • In-depth knowledge of financial statements & tax returns • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills • Superior attention to detail and accuracy • Strong phone and email communication skills • Experience working in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment • Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines • Ability to interact professionally with management, sales, and merchants • South Florida or Richmond, VA candidates only
