Watauga County Tax Department is accepting applications for Tax Administrator position. Under general supervision position directs, organizes and manages an effective and comprehensive tax collection, listing, property mapping and assessment program for the County. Position is responsible for researching and developing new and revised procedures and methods for efficient program operation; preparing and administering annual departmental budget, personnel matters, tax assessment, collections, and foreclosure programs. Position requires a comprehensive knowledge of current property tax listing, appraisal and collection principles and practices; comprehensive knowledge of building construction practices and of building and land values; thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; skill in making difficult property appraisals; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate employees; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, associates and the general public. Bachelor's Degree in business administration, accounting or a related field, and three to five years of experience in tax assessment, appraisal or collections, with one to two years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Completion of training and certification by the North Carolina Department of Revenue as prescribed in the Machinery Act of North Carolina is also a requirement.
Salary $112,336 - $140,420 dependent upon qualifications. County benefit package includes health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
