Because Baltimore City is at the heart of our work, travel within the City is required. The ideal candidate will have an awareness of the social dynamics impacting the City and of the historical system of oppression that influences views of the City. BCYF provides a hybrid working environment that gives staff the flexibility to work remotely when not required for in-person meetings or tasks.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Development role plays a crucial role in Baltimore Children & Youth Fund's (BCYF) fundraising efforts. This position reports to the Senior Director of External Affairs and is responsible for overseeing the development team and ensuring the team reaches its fundraising goals. The role cultivates relationships with donors and strategic partners who support BCYF's mission of ensuring the well-being of Baltimore's children and youth. The Director works in collaboration with the Senior Director of External Affairs to develop fundraising and giving strategies for all of BCYF's programs and general operations. In addition to this, the role works in tandem with the Development Manager and Development Associate to craft persuasive fundraising materials, oversee gift entry and acknowledgments, and collaborate across departments to align fundraising efforts with the organization's broader mission and communication strategies. To excel in this role, candidates should possess 2-3 years of front-line fundraising experience, a strong understanding of Baltimore City and its philanthropic landscape, excellent communication and writing skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a proactive, forward-thinking mindset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Relationship Building: Serve as a front-line fundraiser, nurturing relationships with donors and partners who support BCYF's mission.
Fundraising Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Senior Director of External Affairs to shape and execute the organization's fundraising strategy.
Fundraising Copy: Collaborate with the Development Manager to draft compelling fundraising copy, including grant applications, direct mail solicitations, email campaigns, and other materials that resonate with donors and partners.
Gift Entry and Acknowledgment: Oversee the gift entry process and ensure timely and personalized acknowledgment of contributions, fostering strong donor relationships.
Supervision: Supervise the Development Manager, including supporting cross-team and individual performance and development goals and giving and receiving feedback;
Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate extensively with the External Affairs office to align fundraising efforts with our broader mission and communication strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Fundraising Expertise: 2-3 years of front-line fundraising experience, ideally in a nonprofit or youth development organization.
Baltimore City Insight: A strong understanding of Baltimore City and its philanthropic, youth development, and social landscapes.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Self-Driven: A proactive and self-driven approach, with the ability to work independently, think innovatively, and create opportunities.
Forward Thinking: Forward-thinking mindset to help shape BCYF's future.
Tools and Software: Proficiency in Neon, ClickUp, and Google Workspace (Note: We do not use Microsoft products, and training will be provided to those who may not have all of these proficiencies).
