JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under close supervision of General Superintendent or Foreman. Assists in maintenance and repair of roads, highways, bridges, culverts, and highway signs; performs other related duties as required.
DUTIES: 1. Performs all duties connected with highway construction and maintenance. Work in general consists of patching potholes, flagging, shovel and rake stone, cleaning ditches, and restoring culverts, handling bridge plank, and nailing bridge plank, cutting brush, and cleanup work. 2. Performs miscellaneous tasks related to snow and ice removal by clearing frozen drains or sewers. 3. May be required to flag traffic in or around job site. 4. Respond to call-outs to ensure and maintain safety of the highway system.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Basic knowledge of a. construction maintenance, repair methods and procedures, b. safety practices, c. materials and equipment used; ability to d. demonstrate sufficient physical strength to perform manual labor e. follow instructions; skill in f. operation of small power tools. 2. Able to learn to operate any piece of equipment that is owned by the County. 3. Good physical strength and endurance to lift heavy loads, be active and/or stand for long periods of time with exposure to inclement weather and extreme temperatures. 4. Possession of a valid State of Ohio Driver's License, a good driving record, and insurability.
