Job Description:

Prescott College seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position in Psychology. This faculty member will teach and contribute to curriculum development within our BA in Psychology program, as well as contribute to the Prescott College learning community.

We are looking for a colleague to support our critical mind/heart/soul approach to psychology and well-being and to equip students with skills and knowledge to pursue professional careers in mental health and psychology. These skills crucially include the ability to critically analyze the social and political implications of mental health histories, institutions, and practices and to contribute to social and political change.

Our ideal candidate brings experience working both in human/social services/community health settings and within movements or institutions working for social and/or environmental justice. Additionally, we value motivation to connect students with opportunities for hands-on learning.

Teaching might include foundational psychology courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Social Science Research Methods, and Lifespan Development, as well as specialty courses including Foundations of Critical Psychology, Community Psychology, Ecopsychology, Transpersonal Psychology, and Sexuality and Sexual Outlaws.

Candidates should also have significant undergraduate and graduate-level teaching experience in online, site-based, and hybrid settings; evidence of active research; and a Ph.D. in Psychology (or a closely related field). Program leadership and development skills and experience are also desirable. The candidates teaching and research emphasis may be in one or more of a variety of relevant disciplinary or interdisciplinary academic fields. Academic and subject areas the candidate might draw from to develop new curriculum include (but are not limited to): critical psychology, decolonial and Indigenous psychologies, feminist/queer studies; Liberation psychology ecopsychology; cultural and multicultural psychology;culturally-responsive mental healthcare and counseling skills; psychology of race; trauma recovery; addiction recovery; specific community health issues; online and global contexts; and more. The ideal candidate must also have a strong understanding of the structural and systemic causes of psychological processes and mental health challenges. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in governance, teaching, student advising and engage in scholarship and professional development within the field.
