The Instrumentation & Controls Team within the Design Unit is responsible for the design of process control and automation systems for water treatment, conveyance, and distribution facilities throughout Metropolitan’s operating system. This Assistant Engineer II position involves Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineering design duties. This includes performing or assisting with development of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), process schematics, equipment data sheets, instrumentation specifications, equipment and process control strategies, microprocessor and electronics-based automation control and design, and preparation of studies and plans for Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. This position will also assist with process start-ups, inspection, diagnosis, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control and automation issues in support of day-to-day water system operations.
Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.
Travel: This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, sometimes requiring overnight stay in the project area.
Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer I level.
Relevant Experience is defined as experience in the following areas: instrumentation and control; electrical; automation including Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s); Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s); process schematics; equipment data sheets, instrumentation specifications, equipment, and process control strategies; microprocessor and electronics-based automation control and design; and/or preparation of studies and plans for Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive in the course of your employment.
