• TPMs are a part of every position in the mill. This may include mandatory overtime for completion of TPM tasks.
• Notifies Team Leads or Process Leads if standard work cannot be followed.
SAFETY:
• This individual will handle sharp lathe knives that could amputate an arm or a foot. They must ensure that lathe knives have a protective guard on them while carrying them or while they are stored.
• He/She is also responsible for making sure the lathe is properly shut off, locked out, while working on lathe line
• Safety glasses, ear plugs, and area appropriate gloves must be worn. (special chain mail gloves for handling of knives.
• This individual is exposed to normal petroleum-based lubricants and hydraulic oils. Naturally, flame should not be allowed to be near these petroleum-based products and should they be spilled on the ground maintenance should be notified of the spill.
• A clearance of three feet should be kept in front of all electrical boxes.
• This individual is also responsible for ensuring that all guard and safety chains are in place.
• Must use leather arm guards when changing knives.
• Position must be able to lift weights occasionally from 50 to 100 lbs. and push logs weighing up to 300 lbs. Tight spaces could occur in the lathe changing area.
QUALITY:
• Position is responsible for the proper setup of both the mainan lathe and coe lathe so that there is a consistent peel of the veneer.
• Position should work closely with other Inside Green End Associates to monitor thickness.
• Knowledge of veneer thickness tolerances.
• Provide feedback to outside Green End associates for any issues with logs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Position must have some mechanical Skills (greasing, bearing changes, Gangi rebuild, gangi change, Knife changes, etc.)
• Position should spot problems by having a feel for the sound of the lathe and by monitoring lathe tolerances. They will diagnose potential lathe and quality problems, as well as perform numerous unusual and difficult tasks.
• Position will be totally responsible for running a continuous process operation. They will be called upon to make quick decisions with incomplete information. This required concentration on multifaceted tasks.
Successful candidates must be able to work in various jobs which can include rotating to different job duties. These job duties could include various machine operators, handling material, grading material, quality checks, clean up, and other similar manufacturing activities. This position requires you to follow written and verbal job instructions. Being able to provide feedback and apply critical thinking are other keys to this position.
