CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Classroom Assistant assists teachers in completing assigned responsibilities for instruction, planning, organization, activity implementation, evaluation, childcare, and record maintenance.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists the teacher with disciplining children and recommends or initiates other measures to control behavior, such as picking up toys and books.
Assists with classroom and group activities.
Participates in development of curriculum and related materials used in the classroom.
Supports children's emotional and social development and encourages understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
Identifies signs of emotional or developmental problems in children.
Maintains a safe and stimulating classroom.
Sanitizes toys, equipment, and materials.
Attends and participates in in-service training activities.
Participates in classroom meetings and contributes relevant information.
Participates in applied research and curricula task force programs.
Cooperates with classroom teachers and other assistants.
Supervises student trainees and volunteers in the classroom.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Some experience working with children is preferred (including tutoring, babysitting, etc.)
Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered
