Job Description:

The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa is seeking an Accreditation and Quality Improvement Specialist who will be responsible for the implementation/coordination of the oncology clinical accreditation process in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures through the Commission on Cancer, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer, and the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society. This position involves working with Cancer Center leadership to coordinate and facilitate accreditation survey readiness and quality improvement projects primarily in the outpatient cancer clinical services setting both on main UIHC campus and at UIHC oncology network sites. The continuity of care and transition of patient care to and from the inpatient setting, between specialty providers and with community-based services will also be addressed by the accreditation and quality improvement specialist.


This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement of both on-campus (UIHC) and remote work within the state of Iowa upon completion of a training period, with the majority of work taking place on the U of I/UIHC campus. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.


Duties to include:


Accreditation:

  • Serve as the primary administrative liaison with the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Program which oversees the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer. Fully investigating the standards of accreditation and advancing best practices to ensure highest levels of compliance.
  • Serve as the primary administrative representative for the only European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society accredited site nationally. Keeping abreast of the standards, emerging requirements and working with the teams to document exemplary performance against the measures.
  • Coordinate accreditation committee activities including facilitating accreditation committee meetings, structuring agendas, coordinating speakers, documenting compliance and results in minutes and completing the survey administration records.
  • Track adherence to and progress against established standards. Working with HCIS and other informatics support to identify data for reporting purposes.
  • Preparing multidisciplinary teams for onsite surveys. Conducting inservice sessions to advance understanding of the accreditation standards and compliance with the standards.
  • Working on a collective response with team leadership to follow up on any findings or post-survey activities to address items.

Compliance:

  • Ensure program compliance with applicable regulatory, compliance and accrediting bodies.
  • Serve as HCCC liaison during regulatory onsite visits.
  • Assist in the coordination, development, and ongoing review of policies to ensure ongoing compliance with CMS, the Joint Commission, and all pertinent regulatory body requirements.
  • Complete documentation necessary to be submitted for accreditation in accordance with accreditation standards.
  • Communicate changes in accreditation standards to relevant committees.
  • Formulate and convene work teams to address accreditation standard or quality improvement project needs.

Quality Improvement:

  • Develop, conduct and lead continuous quality and operational improvement in order to improve efficiency of operations, services and/or processes.
  • In collaboration with staff and leadership, participate in the monitoring, reporting and improvement activities related to quality and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Utilize systematic, data-driven methods to develop, monitor, evaluate and improve operational performance.
  • Participate as quality improvement coordinator for COC Accreditation. Under the guidance of the Cancer liaison physician and with the cancer committee facilitate the measurement, evaluation, and improvement of Cancer Center performance through at least one cancer-specific quality improvement initiative each year.
  • Coordinate process improvement for quality initiatives to satisfy NAPBC requirements.
  • Work with Rectal Cancer Program Coordinator for NAPRC requirements to ensure NAPRC requirements are met.
  • Support physician administrator, physician coordinator and quality management coordinator for ENETS designation.
  • Identify, measure, and present metrics defining quality and value provided to the organization.
  • Maintain databases measuring program goals.
  • Develop an audit structure for quality and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Collect, analyze and prepare for submission data for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary teams to increase quality or produce favorable outcomes.
  • Execute and serve as a project manager for projects of moderate complexity. Track, monitor and report project progression using appropriate project management tools.

Leadership/Supervision
:

  • Assist in interviewing, selecting and training new clerical and volunteer assistants.
  • Participate as a member of the Cancer Center Clinical Leadership in collaborative meetings.
  • Provide educational content and delivery of training in basic and intermediary quality tools and strategies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. 2 years of experience in accreditation, process improvement, quality management and/or project management experience..

3. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

4. Proficiency in computer software applications.

5. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

6. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision or training, to self-motivate, meet deadlines, and multi-task while working on various projects.

7. Ability to work with physicians, nurses, and all members of the patient care team.



DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Experience in clinical environment, preferably oncology.

2. Accreditation and quality program experience in oncology.

3. Experience in performance improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, and Value Stream Mapping.
