Responsibilities:
Ensure products developed at LMMFC meet safety standards for end-users through hazard analysis and safety feature recommendations.
Conduct hazard analyses in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and contractual requirements.
Collaborate with systems and software engineering teams to assess and implement safety measures within system designs and software architectures.
Develop safety documentation to fulfill customer and contract obligations.
Mentor and train early-career engineers in System Safety Engineering (SSE) practices.
Prepare and present safety analyses and recommendations at technical reviews and customer briefings.
Support suppliers by communicating and verifying system safety requirements.
Review specifications, technical documentation, and design changes for safety impacts.
Participate in safety testing activities and accident investigations, identifying causes and corrective actions.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college.
Clearance: Interim Secret Clearance required.
Experience:
Developing and implementing a System Safety Program in accordance with MIL-STD-882.
Familiarity with software safety programs (e.g., AOP-52, DoD guidelines).
Evaluating and defining system safety requirements.
Expertise in safety criteria and hazard mitigation techniques in system design.
Proficiencies:
Strong working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and related analyses.
Experience delivering formal presentations and participating in customer briefings.
Desired Skills:
Experience with independent government Safety Review Boards.
Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering.
Familiarity with missile and launcher systems.
Proficiency in model-based engineering and DOORS requirements application.
Ability to work with system safety-specific software tools.
