The Betegon Lab (https://betegonlab.science) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Scientist to work on the development of next-generation AAV vector systems with enhanced capabilities.
The candidate must have a PhD in biophysics, computational biology, biology, biochemistry, or related field. This position will involve both computational and wet lab protein work. Previous experience in structural biology and/or computational protein analysis and design is required, as is experience with basic molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning. Experience in protein expression in bacterial cells and FPLC protein purification is not required but is highly desirable. Previous experience working with AAV is not required, and this position will not require handling of AAVs.
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
The researcher will assist in the design, development and evaluation of these novel AAV systems, and the research will focus on computational protein engineering and the in-vitro validation and characterization of these novel proteins. The researcher will present research findings at internal and external meetings, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts.
The position may require some physical effort, for example, moving and lifting boxes containing laboratory supplies and equipment. The employee may also be required to sit and work at a laboratory bench or desk for extended periods of time.
