Job Description:

Meta designs, builds, leases, and operates the most innovative and efficient data centers in the world. Meta is seeking a Director of Site Development to manage Meta's global data center real estate and development portfolio in line with the company's strategic objectives to advance our efforts around AI. This role has overall global responsibility for the data center supply portfolio and leading the team that manages all aspects of real estate and environment, including: new site location strategy, land development, negotiations, leasing strategy, ongoing management of existing data centers and expansions, mitigation of environmental impacts at our data centers and surrounding community, and management of permitting and other approvals needed to successfully operate our growing fleet of data centers.



Director of Site Development Responsibilities:



  • Grow and lead a global team of site selection, real estate, and environmental professionals dedicated to locating, developing, and managing Facebook's global data center fleet

  • Collaborate with key leaders across design, engineering, construction, network, and legal to develop the strategic plan needed to execute against the company's aggressive capacity targets

  • Guide team members on overall strategic approach to developing new capacity while mitigating risk and ensuring that sufficient contingency plans are in place

  • Accountable for data center supply pipeline and delivering on capacity targets while minimizing cost and optimizing for flexibility and optionality

  • Ensure that existing data center locations can operate and expand successfully

  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure high uptime, capacity availability, flexibility with cost efficiency

  • Represent Meta in meetings with executives from potential suppliers, governments, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders

  • Recruit, on-board, and mentor internal staff and ensure robust learning and career development

  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed (25%+)





Minimum Qualifications:



  • 15+ years of overall experience working in the site selection or real estate space

  • 8+ years experience managing a multi-layered organization

  • Proven commercial leadership and negotiation experience on multi-variable, complex deals

  • Proven track record of delivering large capital projects

  • Experience developing the vision for Facebook's location strategy using development experience, including: site selection & negotiation, feasibility analysis, site planning, entitlements, permitting and contingency planning

  • Strategic thinker with experience driving decision making in ambiguous environments with experience influencing senior level stakeholders

  • Analytical problem-solving skills, experience being effective in a fast paced, hands-on work environment, and have a track record of success leading projects and developing complex solutions across multiple stakeholders.

  • Competent collaborator and skilled cross-functional communicator

  • Communication, and presentation skills

  • Proven track record of organizational leadership, including leading larger organizations and scaling teams during growth cycles

  • Knowledgeable about and/or experience to quickly assess industry trends and headwinds, market opportunities, and the competitive landscape





Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, real estate, MBA or J.D.

  • 10+ years of commercial real estate experience

  • International development experience

  • Experience in data center industry

$292,000/year to $337,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits


Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
