A Day in the Life
In this role, you will be responsible for the development and execution of an operations strategy that maximizes resources and drives efficiency and results for the Medtronic Foundation. You will design, lead and facilitate operating mechanisms within the Foundation and be accountable for preparing for and facilitating key meetings within the organization. You will oversee governance practices for the organization, grantmaking processes, data and reporting, key functional technology resources, and partner to address employee and customer inquiries. Through partnerships with numerous key internal partners, including but not limited to legal, finance, HR, IT, procurement and facilities you will ensure the Foundation is aligned with Medtronic core business practices and maintains all required governance practices as an independent 510c3 organization, installing process excellence supports for program governance, project reviews, training, and rewards.

Using Six Sigma methodologies, you will develop, implement and sustain process improvement initiatives, ensuring programs are integrated vertically and horizontally across the organization. You will define improvement projects aligned with business strategies and analyze improvement programs and potential results. You will facilitate and coach direct reports and establish and maintain performance metrics to measure program success.

This role is working in a hybrid capacity (3 days in the office) at our operating headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The key stakeholders for this role are located in Fridley, MN.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Assess operating mechanisms, identify and prioritize areas of improvement and create roadmap to deliver solutions

  • Maintain a practice of staying up to date on innovative operating solutions for managing backend operations for foundations.

  • Proactively identify ways to leverage AI and other automation to simplify processes, build a digital self-serve capability for employee interactions with the Foundation, to continually optimize the capacity of the Foundation team.

  • Work closely with legal to ensure 501c3 governance requirements are met and stay up to date on governance requirements.

  • Partner across the Medtronic organization to leverage resources and share information that facilitates effective day to day operations and negates any legal risk.

  • Analyze data, track, and maintain for use in demonstrating the Foundation's programmatic impact and contributes to the overall Philanthropy contributions used by Medtronic.

  • Lead the development of the teams strategic planning and AOP processes, partnering with finance as appropriate

  • Along with finance partner, track and manage the Foundations budget forecast and payment processes and approve weekly payment disbursements from the Foundations bank to payees.

  • Prep, lead and facilitate key Foundation meetings, including but not limited to Board meetings, program review meetings, all-team meetings, strat plan, AOP and budget meetings, Org Health survey discussions, and participate in on-going programmatic and payment meetings as needed.

  • Lead Foundation technology system relationships, including negotiations, RFPs and contracting

  • Support the Foundation President as needed

  • Guide and develop team members to ensure strong execution of critical processes and practices.

  • Empower team members through identifying goals and critical objectives, proactively partner on development opportunities and provide ongoing feedback and support.

  • Drive innovation within your team as well as the broader Foundation team by challenging the status quo and proactively identifying new ways to drive efficiency.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree plus 10+ years of relevant experience (or 8+ years with an advanced degree) along with 7+ years of progressive leadership experience

  • 5+ years of experience leading an operational function

Nice to Have:


  • Six sigma certified with demonstrated ability to apply to business processes and operations

  • Experience in community service as a board member, advisory committee member, volunteer or donor

  • Experience working for a Fortune 500 company

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$160,000.00 - $240,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
