Job Description:

Louis A. Faillace MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UTHealth Houston is recruiting a full-time Clinical Psychologist. The primary function of this position is to provide psychological assessment, health and behavior interventions, and psychotherapy to individuals, families, and groups in an adult oncology population. The Clinical Psychologist will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team that includes oncologists, palliative care physicians, nurses, a social worker, a dietician, and other clinical staff. As an active member of the team, the Clinical Psychologist will participate in regular multidisciplinary conferences and rounds. While the nature of the role is collaborative, the Clinical Psychologist will be able to function independently with a high degree of professional ethics, judgment, initiative, interpersonal effectiveness, and time management.

Position Key Accountabilities:


  • Assesses cancer-related distress, behavioral factors that affect adherence to treatment, suicidal ideation, primary mental disorders, and other psychosocial impacts of cancer. Makes appropriate referrals for psychiatric or specialty mental health services as needed.
  • Provides evidence-based interventions to address illness-related adjustment and coping difficulties, mood changes, anxiety, sleep disturbance, pain management, body image disturbance, and other needs across the cancer care trajectory, including end of life.
  • Uses telemedicine effectively and when clinically appropriate.
  • Maintains timely and appropriate documentation of services to meet statutory and regulatory requirements and to facilitate team-based care.
  • Provides effective consultation and education to the multidisciplinary cancer care team.
  • Engages in program development to address the psychosocial needs of patients, caregivers, and clinical staff.
  • Assists in the development of research programs and collection of data.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. or PsyD in clinical psychology or counseling psychology from an APA accredited graduate training program.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in psycho-oncology.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
