Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:



Working under general supervision of a principal investigator, manager or project leader and following established policies and procedures, aids with research studies.


May be responsible for the following activities: collecting and organizing study data; scheduling appointments; tracking equipment use, calibration, location; ordering supplies and equipment; transferring samples/specimen; maintaining and updating data generated by the study; maintaining regulatory documentation; tracking expenditures.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



The CARE Lab at the Brigham and Women's Hospital seeks a research coordinator to work on a variety of research projects related to sexual and reproductive health on a full-time basis.



CARE Lab Mission



  • The mission of the CARE Lab in the Social Sciences is to advance quality, equity, and justice in contraception and abortion care, with a primary focus on the United States.

  • We advance quality of care by investigating deficits in quality, exploring strategies to make care more patient-centered, and conceptualizing new quality-related metrics for use by researchers, clinical teams, and public health practitioners.

  • We advance equity in care by identifying health inequities related to abortion and contraception, centering the experiences of individuals most affected by societal dynamics of power and oppression, and designing and testing interventions to promote equity in care delivery.

  • We advance justice in care by grounding our analysis in a critical appraisal of the historical and contemporary power structures that influence reproductive health. We leverage our power as academics in a progressive policy environment to work in solidarity with collaborators and colleagues across geographies.




The research assistant will:


1. Aids with research studies as per guidelines and protocols.


2. Approaches patients to fill out surveys and ensures completion. Follows up with patients to ensure questionnaires are completed.


3. Working within existing data systems to ensure correct tabulation of data.


4. Organizes and processes study data. Creates and maintains databases/files containing study data using standard Division practices.


5. Maybe required to input data, perform descriptive analysis and run various reports


6. Assists Investigators and other study personnel in executing studies. Carries out standard and study-specific events as outlined in the study orders, SOPs, and other written documents. Drafts and/or modifies written procedures for study-specific events/data procedures. Acts as a liaison between Investigators, hospital staff, administrative staff, subject recruiters, and research subjects to identify areas for quality and workflow improvements. Assists with the development of the informed consent documents, source documents and other documents as applicable


7. Per protocol instruction, conducts telephone interviews or schedules patients for study visits and screenings


8. Assists Investigator in research activities. Performs literature searches, reviews literature, enters papers into reference database, compiles and checks reference lists for manuscripts, grants, and other written reports.


9. Assists in preparation and submission of IRB documents, other applications, as well as grants.


10. Assists in orienting and training new employee if needed.


11. Follows Infection Control, Electrical Safety, Radiation Safety and other guidelines as mandated by BWH, OSHA, or other regulatory agencies; follows HIPPA and Human Research guidelines as mandated by DHHS. Follows all standard operating procedures for Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Center for Clinical Investigation, and BWH; follows study-specific procedures.


12. Is responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants


13. Interacts with study monitors, scheduling monitoring visits as indicated and providing timely responses to study queries


14. Contributes to a research team environment, serving as back-up coordinator to support other studies in department, cross-training/peer-mentoring other team members and contributing to research meetings


15. Supports administrative tasks related to research such as purchasing, reimbursements, and meeting scheduling


16. Performs all other duties, as required

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS




  • BA or BS degree.

  • 1 or more years full-time experience working in a research setting, preferably with human subjects

  • Computer program proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite required; REDCap, Stata, R, Dedoose, NVivo preferred





  • SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



    • Ability to work independently in a busy, research, academic, open office setting with other employees.


    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.


    • Careful attention to detail.


    • Excellent interpersonal skills are required.


    • Good oral and written communication skills.


    • Working knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.


    • Ability to learn new skills and procedures quickly and perform them independently.


    • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subject rights and individual needs.


    • Must be able to be HIPAA compliant at all times.
