Job Description:

The Office of Revisor of Statutes of the Nebraska Legislature is currently seeking applicants for the position of Legal Counsel. The Legal Counsel assists members of the Legislature in drafting legislation and assists in the codification and publication of the Revised Statutes of Nebraska. If you are interested in the legislative process, have excellent writing skills, and are a detail-oriented person, then this may be the job for you!


The primary job duties for this position include the following:
-Drafts legislative bills, constitutional amendments, legislative resolutions, and amendments to pending legislation
-Reviews legislative bills as part of the Enrollment & Review process and drafts any necessary amendments
-Assists with the codification of passed legislation for the yearly supplement to the statutes (i.e., assigns statute numbers, writes catchlines, provides cross references, and prepares the General Index)
-Assists with the reissue of volumes of the statutes (i.e., combines the last reissue with the supplement material and updates cross references)



Requirements/ Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a recognized law school plus a license to practice law in the State of Nebraska.



Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience in the legal profession is highly desirable.
