Job Title: Sr. Director of People & Talent Operations

Compensation Range: $140,000-165,000

About the Position

The Sr. Director of People & Talent Operations plays a critical role in shaping and driving the organization's people strategy. This leader will oversee talent acquisition, employee development, and people relations to foster a positive, high-performance culture. As a strategic partner to the executive team, the Director of HR will lead initiatives that support business objectives, ensuring alignment between organizational goals and HR practices. Additionally, this role will focus on embedding DEI principles across all HR policies and programs, creating an inclusive and equitable workplace.

  • Talent Management & Development: Oversee the full lifecycle of talent acquisition and retention, including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning. Lead HR training and development initiatives to upskill employees and foster leadership across all levels of the organization.
  • Leadership & People Management: Lead and mentor HR Generalists and the Recruitment team, fostering a collaborative and performance-driven culture. Provide guidance on complex employee relations issues and support management in conflict resolution.
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement forward-thinking HR strategies that support organizational goals, align with business objectives, and foster a positive, inclusive culture. Act as a trusted advisor on organizational design, culture development, and workforce planning.
  • Employee Relations & Compliance: Address and resolve employee relations issues and disputes efficiently while ensuring compliance with employment laws (e.g., EEO, employee relations). Conduct thorough employee investigations as needed, ensuring confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Compensation & Benefits Management: Manage compensation and benefits strategies, ensuring pay equity and competitive offerings across all levels of the organization. Leverage data to monitor trends and adjust practices as needed to attract and retain top talent.
  • Change Management: Serve as a key change agent, leading HR initiatives that drive organizational transformation and improve the employee experience. Oversee the communication and implementation of new policies, procedures, and programs.
  • HR Operations & Technology: Lead the optimization of HR processes using modern HR technologies, ensuring a seamless employee experience and operational efficiency. Develop and track key metrics to enable data-driven decision-making that supports strategic goals.
  • Ethics & Culture: Champion an ethical, inclusive, and positive organizational culture. Infuse DEI principles into HR policies, training programs, and daily operations to ensure fairness and inclusivity across the workforce.
  • Project & Budget Management: Oversee HR-related projects, managing timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve successful outcomes. Ensure effective use of the HR budget while maintaining high-quality HR services.
  • Coaching & Development: Provide coaching and development to managers and employees on HR policies, performance management, and leadership practices. Support the growth of leadership capability throughout the organization.
  • Communication & Problem-Solving: Deliver clear, effective communication across all levels of the organization, ensuring transparency and understanding. Apply strong problem-solving skills to address complex HR issues and drive resolution.
  • Compliance & Legal Oversight: Maintain thorough knowledge of HR-related legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Proactively manage risks and implement best practices in employment law compliance.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Goodwill's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; monitoring performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Partner with Total Talent & People Operations as needed and appropriate.

Education and Experience:


  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources, with a focus on talent management, recruiting, and HR generalist functions.
  • Leadership & Coaching: Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing HR teams. Experience managing employee relations and supporting leadership development.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organization. Skilled in negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Project & Time Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management.
  • Strategic Thinking & Problem-Solving: Ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to complex HR challenges. Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on driving results.
  • Proficiency in HR Technology: Strong knowledge of HR management systems (e.g., Dayforce) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Ability to leverage data for decision-making.
  • Change Agent: Experience leading change management efforts and successfully implementing new HR initiatives that align with business objectives.
  • Ethics & Integrity: Strong commitment to ethics, diversity, and inclusion. Proven ability to promote a positive, respectful workplace culture.

Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations:


  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement preferred.
  • Must have valid WA driver's license and proof of insurance.

Computer/Technology Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Experience with Dayforce a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.

Physical Abilities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required sit for long periods, communicate with other employees by talking and hearing, required to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and to operate computer systems. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to communicate with others effectively both verbally and written, including those who have limited English skills. Maintain reliable attendance.

Work Environment: Office and store environment; moderate noise level. Must have reliable transportation as this position requires location travel and offsite meetings and events. Able to work a flexible schedule that may include occasional nights and weekends.
