Job Description:

Reporter, Wall Street Culture, New York

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a creative and deeply connected reporter to cover Wall Street culture and personalities.

This reporter will have a wide remit to deliver colorful features and deep-dives that reveal Wall Street's oddities and contradictions, highlight its most interesting people and examine complex financial topics for a wide audience.

Wall Street sits at the center of the business world and has an outsize impact on Americans' daily lives that isn't always so obvious. The CEOs of big banks, asset managers and private-equity firms regularly make decisions that have far-reaching consequences for our economy and beyond.

We're looking for someone capable of finding unique and unexpected ways to cover the biggest finance stories of the day, whether it's a bank failure, a meme-stock frenzy or an executive scandal. You'll unearth financial shenanigans, spot the fascinating profile candidate, call moments. In short, we want someone who can capture Wall Street's zeitgeist.

You will:
  • Report and write memorable features
  • Find offbeat ways to deepen our coverage of the biggest stories in finance
  • Maintain a varied network of sources across Wall Street
  • Work closely with reporters and groups across the newsroom

You have:
  • A willingness to jump from topic to topic and become an expert on a moment's notice
  • A sharp sense of what makes for an enjoyable and enlightening read
  • Exquisite writing skills and a unique storytelling voice
  • An interest in experimenting with new storytelling formats

The position is based in New York and reports to Wall Street Editors David Benoit and Cara Lombardo.

To apply, please provide a resume and cover letter by Friday November 1st.
