Our Creative Arts Vocational Counselor will work ourNextChapter Learning and Wellness psychiatric rehabilitation and supported education program that promotes overall wellness and supports adults in their recovery from mental illness. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience and knowledge in creative arts. This includes: supporting people in developing their skills in various art forms with the use of different media; running weekly classes; organizing community based art showings; connecting people to resources in the greater community; and adaptable teaching skills for teaching basic level classes in visual art or other desirable topics. The candidate will also have a working understanding of Psychiatric Rehabilitation philosophy and rehabilitation counseling skills; experience working collaboratively as part of a therapeutic treatment team to support people in recovery; and strong computer skills for required documentation.

VC II (Bachelors) - $27.85/hr



VC III (Masters) - $28.89/hr

Responsibilities
& Duties:





  • Outreach and maintain a caseload of individuals engaged in services

  • Assist people we serve with setting short and long-term learning and wellness goals

  • Complete data, reports and clinical documentation as required

  • Coordinate care between the rehabilitation department and the clinical team

  • Facilitate social activities and special events within the community and the program

  • Support individuals with educational opportunities and trainings within the program and community

  • Manage an art studio, monitoring students and maintaining appropriate stock of art supplies

  • Exhibit student artwork displays within the building as well as finding appropriate venues for artists to show artwork within the Denver community

  • Coordinate creative art based activities within the program and the community

  • Facilitate basic level classes in art, music, performance and/or other creative arts genre

  • Collaborate with individuals we serve to encourage engagement and support recovery

  • Provide services with a Trauma-Informed approach and crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed

  • Effectively collaborative with peers to oversee the day to day operations of the program

  • Be self-motivated and have good time-management skills

  • Model good communication, healthy working-relationships and appropriate boundaries

  • Support cultural diversity and encourage inclusiveness of people with different abilities

  • Be creative in bringing your strengths and interests to the team and program

  • Ability to transport people we serve to/from activities using agency van

  • Perform duties as assigned




Requirements & Qualifications:




Education/Experience
:



Vocational Counselor II


  • Bachelors degree in rehabilitation or related field and three years vocational experience, or experience related to specific job duties.

Vocational Counselor III


  • Masters degree in vocational rehabilitation or related field; with one year of experience in a vocational rehabilitation setting or experience with specific duties of this position is preferred.




Certifications
: Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner or willingness to obtain certification within one year.



SKILLS: Ability to teach adult learners, and work with a number of different learning styles. Flexibility to tailor instruction and expectations to individual people we serve. Knowledge of vocational community resources and the local community. Proficiency and knowledge of computer technology and resources. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
