Position Overview: This position is responsible for directing Swine Production Supervisors in overseeing wean-to-finish swine production in contract grower's facilities within an assigned territory. This includes the well-being and performance of the pigs as well managing grower/owner relationships for the purpose of maintaining a long-term successful partnership.
Duties and Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:
Carries out supervisory functions in accordance with the company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and mentoring; performance appraisals; rewarding and disciplining employees.
Oversee the production of pigs with contract growers
Supervising the proper setup and barn environment for incoming weaned pigs
Manage the load in and sort down process upon pig arrival
Train, implement and supervise early weaned pig care
Ensure inventory control, documentation, and reporting procedures are completed
Manage the health and medication strategy for barns under your overall supervision
Train, implement and manage proper animal welfare procedures and protocols
Direct and supervise established vaccination program
Communicate marketing and scheduling needs through the grow out process
Oversee selection and loadout procedures at marketing
Skills and Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge in commercial swine production and sound animal welfare practices
PQA certification required within 30 days after hiring
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain successful relationships
Ability to trouble shoot pig health and environmental conditions
Capable of working and communicating effectively within a team environment
Clear understanding of proper animal comfort and welfare requirements and the ability to communicate those requirements to growers
Excellent organizational and time management skills that allow the ability to work within strict time frames
Ability to work without supervision and make appropriate decisions
Work hours necessary to be successful and travel as needed
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Must have valid driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain all acceptable certifications, licenses and permits including maintaining an acceptable MVR determined by the company
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in ag related field is preferred: or a combination of education and/or experience
2 years of supervisory experience is preferred, but not required for the right individual
