Your contribution
As the Manager of Corporate and Retail Safety, you will be responsible for the development and successful implementation of corporate distribution and retail safety programs. You will provide leadership, support and direction to create a culture of safety for the organization. You will serve as the primary liaison and lead for all Wakefern OSHA related requirements, activities and inspections, serving as a technical resource for OSHA compliance and accident reduction strategies. In addition, you will be responsible for the fleet safety and telematics program for the Wakefern company fleet.
What you will do
Establish and implement corporate strategic goals for workplace safety and injury prevention programs for all wholesale and retail locations.
Create and set goals, standards, and metrics to track, measure and report on safety performance.
Actively participate in meetings with the Division Lead, reviewing corporate and retail safety objectives, issues, performance and progress towards goals.
Manage, lead and coach team of safety specialists in the successful planning and implementation of safety operations and initiatives.
Actively participate in the day-to-day activities of the safety team.
Conduct regular, weekly visits to the distribution centers and retail stores
Develop, implement, and oversee training programs for retail and corporate facilities aimed at achieving compliance with corporate injury reduction goals and OSHA.
Monitor compliance with safety programs and policies, including OSHA regulations, federal guidelines, and industry best practices.
Develop and maintain partnerships with federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies and members of the OSHA community.
Develop, communicate and publish as needed Business Resiliency and Emergency Response protocols for emerging crisis.
Maintain recordkeeping and reporting logs, training documentation, and all other records pertaining to enforcement activities conducted by OSHA.
Advise senior staff on strategies for compliance with federal and regional safety regulations and requirements.
Report and present to senior management and the Risk Management Committee on wholesale and retail safety programs.
Report and present to the Retail Safety Task Force on retail safety programs and best practices.
Monitor the results of safety audits and observations at distribution centers using data to inform strategy around prevention, reduction and mitigation of injuries.
Collaborate with logistics to address safety concerns and develop solutions.
Manage corporate fleet safety and telematics program.
Identify and share best practices across all functions to drive awareness and continuous improvement.
Serve as the primary lead on all safety related projects with outside consultants and insurance representatives.
Provide reports and analysis on injury trends, root cause analysis, areas for improvement, using data from Origami Information System.
Partner with the risk management claims team to address trends in retail and corporate environments.
Assist internal divisions in assessing and addressing associate safety concerns.
Act as the organization's representative with industry member organizations.
Provide input and direction in the development of the safety budget and maintain fiscal responsibility in the management and control of safety team expenses.
Ensure department compliance with all corporate human resource policies and procedures, including performance reviews.
Provide support and direction, as requested, for special projects and investigations.
Maintain divisional on-call status, as assigned, and routinely be available on a 24/7/365 basis.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, Industrial Safety, Safety Management or related technical field.
Professional certification in Safety is preferred (i.e., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist,).
Thorough understanding of applicable local, state, federal (including OSHA), and company safety and environmental regulations, codes, and requirements; ability to impart knowledge to others.
Minimum 7 years of safety management experience; experience in manufacturing, warehousing, and/or retail preferred.
Demonstrated effective project management skills to ensure successful program execution and timely issue resolution.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with government agencies, industry groups, senior leaders, and other stakeholders.
Proficient in various safety risk assessment and root cause analysis methods.
Ability to apply critical thinking skills and sound judgment in day-to-day operations of the team with minimal supervision.
Supervisory/management experience
Willingness to travel within retail cooperative trade area. Occasional overnights may be required.
Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Valid driver's license
