Position Summary:

As a Manufacturing Process Engineer at Solaris, you will be a vital part of our manufacturing operations, utilizing your core skills in Lean manufacturing, process engineering, and industrial engineering to optimize production processes. Your premium skills in project scheduling, root cause analysis, and AutoCAD will be essential in driving continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring efficient manufacturing operations. With relevant skills in robotics, mechanical engineering, and CNC programming, you will contribute to the development and implementation of innovative manufacturing solutions. Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect/analyze necessary information to identify process and equipment limitations. Develop, justify, and manage the implementation of improvement projects. Work with operators and process technicians to develop, improve, and monitor key procedures.
  • Learn, understand and monitor converting processes, production equipment capabilities and department KPI's.
  • Assist with writing Standard Work documents and operator training. Develop or assist in the development of training material.
  • Understand and utilize the department data management systems.
  • Equipment Efficiencies and Condition: Create and/or develop vendor and/or supplier relationships. Identify potential and/or necessary equipment upgrades. Work directly with equipment supplier technicians when technical support is required. Assist other staff with equipment troubleshooting as required.
  • Maintain an awareness of equipment maintenance requirements. Assist with maintenance planning and Preventive Maintenance program, as required and/or when needed.
  • Continuous Improvement Program: Lead and support Kaizen Weeks and Point Events. Work with operators to explain and promote the continuous improvement process and identify potential improvements. Assist with developing the production schedule. Communicate planned downtime and improve product sequencing. Identify potential or present safety hazards and recommend solutions or improvements, as needed.
  • Special projects management: Manage and complete converting projects as required, especially those requiring the interaction of multiple departments (Converting, Maintenance Engineering, Logistics, Paper Mill, etc.) or facility locations. Assist with the planning, installation and start-up of new production equipment.
  • Manage small to medium sized capital projects as required.

Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university; major course of study to be one or a combination of the following: Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Conversion; Graduate degree strongly preferred
  • 1 to 5 years in a variety of industrial, technical and/or operational assignments in Pulp and Paper, papermaking, converting, and/or utilities, required
  • Some relevant expertise in manufacturing processes including but not limited to, Kaizen, Kanban, TPM, Cellular, JIT, with a demonstrated ability to translate that expertise into cost, quality, and/or capacity improvements; a minimum 6 month internship in a manufacturing facility/plant is a qualifier for this specification
  • Strong experience using manufacturing analysis tools, including but not limited to SPC (statistical process control), design of experiments, process capability studies, statistical analysis, and Lean
  • A demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve project results within required timeframes
  • Skilled and experienced in the "Management of Change" process
  • Mid-Advanced level in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Budgeting practices
