Job Description:

General

The Estimator researches costs for materials, labor, transportation and other pertinent items in order to prepare quotes and price proposals for customers. The estimator provides proposal information to Project Managers and assists with submission of bids.

Essential Duties
• Effectively communicates with vendors, customers, and 44 Iron personnel in person, by phone, email or other means concerning questions about products, prices, specifications, availability, and product uses.
• Gains and maintains industry and product knowledge.
• Analyzes blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Requests cost information from appropriate personnel concerning raw materials, labor, transportation, etc. in order to develop pricing that is competitive but maximizes profitability.
• Monitors market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales.
• Consults with Drafting Department and Production Department to assure accurate specifications, drawings, and information are available to meet customer needs.
• Participates in regular Structural Department meetings with sales, production, and shipping personnel.
• Reports to the Production Manager any instances of nonconformance of quality, customer requirements, schedule, delivery, or safety. Works with the Project Managers, Production Manager, Production Supervisor, Quality Assurance, or other appropriate personnel to resolve issues and satisfy the customers' needs.

Safety
• Strives to maintain a safe and injury free work environment.
• Understands and complies with all 44 Iron Design safety policies and procedures and OSHA regulations.
• Uses and maintains required personal protective equipment as outlined in the 44 Iron Design Safety Manual.

Other Duties
• Recommends and implements changes to improve processes and reduce costs.
• May assist with marketing. Requirements

• Strong mathematical skills
• Knowledge of or ability to learn specifications of steel products
• Strong negotiation skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Effective presentation skills to convey information
• Ability to persuade others to change their minds or behavior
• Knowledge of Microsoft office software
• Valid drivers license
• Experience with Tekla or Trimble products Qualification Requirements
• Some experience or ability to learn CAD software
• 3 to 5 years of experience preparing price proposals in a manufacturing environment.

Working Conditions

The Estimator will generally work in a controlled climate office environment, but may also occasionally be in a shop and yard environment with possible exposure to the elements and other hazards
