General Description

The Development Assistant will assist the development team in reaching CASA's annual fundraising goals through fundraising events and grant research. Working closely with the Events and Communications Manager to execute her vision for CASA's largest fundraising galas, this person will work behind the scenes to ensure the details are handled with excellence. This person will also be responsible for visiting, collecting from, and thanking local schools who participate in Coins for CASA, as well as attending meetings for other local events CASA will benefit from. During slow event seasons, this individual will assist the Development Director on administrative duties to support CASA's fundraising efforts.

The ideal candidate is fun, creative, service-focused, proactive, a self-starter, meticulous, and highly organized. They must be detail-oriented while also being able to "see the big picture" as it relates to the administrative event tasks required. This individual must be a quick learner with strong written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate is interested in fundraising for a non-profit, executing fundraising events and working in a small office environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Events and Communications Manager with the planning and coordination of fundraising events, including: researching and executing committee ideas, inputting data into fundraising platform, creating auction packages, soliciting donations for auctions and raffles, etc.
  • The week of an event, assist in set-up, execution at event, and tear down (may be required to work extra hours during these weeks)
  • Assist in tracking event performance metrics and preparing post-event reports
  • Support Event Manager in managing event budgets, expenses, and timelines
  • Oversee and lead smaller event initiatives (Coins for CASA, Santa Run, etc.)
  • Maintain CASA's event storage closet
  • Various data entry and administrative tasks for Development Director
  • Research potential grants for CASA's grant writer to apply for
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Development team or Executive Director

Qualifications
  • Passion for CASA's mission
  • Fun personality, ready to help create a positive environment for staff, volunteers, and event attendees
  • Experience with event and/or fundraising databases is preferred
  • Creative mindset with a passion for event planning and fundraising
  • Previous experience in event planning is preferred
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented focus
  • Collaborative, team-player
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word and Excel)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, and Sheets)
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged period of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer. At time required to lift, push, pull, carry and transport boxes weighing up to 15 lbs.

Travel Requirements:

A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work, events, and office errands as needed.

Accountability and Location

The Development Assistant reports directly to the Executive Director who is responsible for their performance evaluations. This person may work a hybrid schedule, from the CASA of McHenry County office in Crystal Lake, IL and from home.

Position is currently listed as Part-Time, 10 hours per week, with extra hours needed twice per year during gala seasons. Salary starts between $18 - $20 per hour.
