Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY & OBJECTIVES:

Directs and coordinates all programs to assure quality of company labeled products. Position requires demonstration of competency for all job activities that may have a direct or indirect effect on product safety, quality, legality and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Audit process to identify areas for improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

Responsibilities include to perform various tasks per standards, including but not limited to all the following:

  • Embraces Southwest Baking's Prime Directives and Statement of Values.
  • Works closely with all Leadership to promote Southwest Baking goals.
  • Directs associates to meet/exceed the established goals for Quality of the product, cGMP's, food/associate safety and food defense.
  • Directly supervises QA Control Technicians and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Operating Procedures, SOP's, HACCP, FSMA, FDA, cGMP's, safety policies and procedures.
  • Manage all internal and third-party quality and food safety audits.
  • Conduct training as necessary, in QA department as well as companywide.
  • Interact with management team to communicate department quality requirement and provide recommendations for addressing non-conformances.
  • Recommend measures to improve quality of products and quality systems; work with appropriate management teams to implement.
  • Oversee Sanitation department on appropriate practices, including budgeting.
  • Assist in the management and QA portion of R&D projects.
  • Refine current plant measurement techniques, laboratory testing procedures, record keeping, and data analysis.
  • Document control.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures, policies and complies with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
  • Promotes safety, sanitation, productivity, quality communication, and a team spirit, as well as a mutual respect for all associates and departments. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures (EEO, Harassment, Safety, etc.).
  • Personally, commits to a continuing educational process that improves/expands business capacities and capabilities.
  • Direct the quality improvement efforts of the company by following a structured continuous improvement approach and focusing on root cause identification and correction.
  • Actively interface with customers for quality issues, technical information, specification, agreements, audits, etc.
  • Manage the customer satisfaction processes and provide instructions when discrepancies are identified to improve overall customer satisfaction.
  • Assist the personnel in evaluation of product non-conformities and root cause analysis down to design. Collaborate in the development and evaluation of permanent counter measures.
  • Oversee internal audit processes with emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Qualifications, Experience & Education:
  • Associate's degree or five plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years prior experience in manufacturing.
  • Food Science and baking experience required.
  • A minimum of three years supervisory experience.
  • Deep knowledge experience in SQF, GFSI, BRC, or FSSC 22000 food processing environment.
  • Strong expertise in statistical analysis.
  • Ability to effectively perform multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Well versed in word computer programs including excel spreadsheets, outlook, word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Enjoys a hands-on work environment.

1. Advanced HACCP Certificate 4. PCQI - Preventative Control Qualified Individual

2. Internal Audit 5. FSMA Certification

3. Food Defense Coordinator 6. Food Safety Certificate

Physical Requirements & Exposures
  • While performing this position, the associate will regularly be required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Must have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively and efficiently to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
