Function: To secure funds for the School for Advanced Research by fulfilling the interests and passions of donors by providing them with giving opportunities, encouraging them to give, and assuring that as many as possible are retained as continuing donors to SAR and are upgraded in their giving and involvement. Giving opportunities are developed and executed in alignment with SAR's development goals and strategy, and in support of SAR's long-term strategic goals. The philanthropy officer will work closely with the chief advancement officer to identify prospects, and to design and develop cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that match donor's interests. Position is full-time, exempt.
Characteristic Duties:
In collaboration with the chief advancement officer (CAO), develop strategies for major and planned giving strategies for annual fund and campaign/project support
Maintain an active portfolio of major giving and planned giving prospects and work to exceed annual visit, solicitation, and realized gift goals defined by CAO
Provide oversight for all aspects of donor relations and stewardship of those relations with the CAO, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donor prospects
Create a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person in portfolio
Create individual goals and personalized moves for each donor on his or her portfolio based on the donor's history of giving and the organizations knowledge of that donor's potential
Draft personalized written proposal to prospective donors as applicable
Manage portfolio in Raiser's Edge ensuring accurate and consistent data entry with support from the advancement associate; including building, generating, updating and running reports and lists for divisions, committee, mailings, special groups, and solicitations
Develop and manage donor lunches, tours, events, and meetings related to the campaign and major gift fundraising with support from Guest Services, event planning staff and the CAO
Identify prospects for SAR's Legacy Circle and help develop strategies to recruit and steward members
Design and develop donor acknowledgement and recognition programs and services for major and planned donors
Participate in the life of SAR and the City of Santa Fe by being fully visible, dynamic, and involved
Produce reports on prospects based on a combination of data for President, CAO, and Board of Directors as required
Supervision: This position reports directly to the chief advancement officer
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's or master's degree, 5 to 7 years' proven fundraising experience, CFRE (preferred), active member of the Santa Fe arts and culture community, willing and available to work nights and weekends as necessary. Must have proven leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Strong organizational, fundraising, budgeting and strategic planning abilities. A detail-oriented approach with excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to speak in public. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Salary is $70,000 to $75,000 annually (DOE). Benefits include 403(b) retirement plan and option to participate in group health, dental, and life insurance plans at a shared cost with SAR; paid holidays; and generous vacation and paid sick leave benefits.
