Job Description:

The Director of College Counseling (DCC) is responsible for developing and managing a college counseling program that will ensure that every student has access to knowledge and information that will allow them to enter a four-year university/college.

The DCC will advance Divine Savior Academy's mission with a college counseling program that will foster growth in student academic knowledge, interpersonal skills, college-readiness skills, and character.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
  • A Master's degree in Counseling is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of previous experience in College Counseling.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and institution representatives.
  • Knowledge of college admissions, matriculation, financial aid, and resources for college readiness and success.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills, as well as exceptional writing skills.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.

Duties

  • Leverages extensive knowledge and experience of college admissions, matriculation, financial aid, and resources in college readiness and success to nurture and sustain a college preparatory culture of academic excellence.
  • Remains current in the area of counseling through membership in professional organizations, reviews of related literature and attendance of workshops and in-service programs.
  • Assists in scheduling and providing information about curriculum offerings in the program of studies to staff, students, and parents.
  • Promotes community understanding through professional concern for all students as well as demonstrating an interest in school and community activities.
  • Provide leadership and management to all College and Career Readiness programs
  • Submit periodic reports (i.e. College Career Success reports, performance evaluation) and other service-related documentation as required.
  • Assist seniors and alumni for finding scholarships, internships and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Collect and analyze data regarding college matriculation, persistence and completion rates.
  • Participates in, coordinates and conducts activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school.
  • Promote current school college going culture and build strong foundations and stamina for success in college.
  • Oversee campus data collection for annual report and program evaluation.
  • Prepare and disseminate materials regarding college and career success programs.
  • Takes responsibility for helping students develop and use personal attributes to explore the best match colleges that will fit their personality and academic profile.
  • Builds relationships with the school leadership team, state and national organizations, and college/universities that will lead to resources for students. (e.g., The National Association for College Admission Counseling, ACT, Florida Independent Colleges and Universities, Florida State University System, The National and Regional College Board Forum, The Florida School Counselors Association, etc.)
  • Coordinates all college and career planning services (etc., college and career planning, ACT And SAT testing and prep programs, college rep. visits, financial aid/scholarships, etc.)
  • Maintain necessary affiliations and certifications. (e.g., ACA, ASCA, NCC, NCSC, SACAC, WACAC, FSCA, etc.)
  • Works with the Athletic Director regarding NCAA eligibility.

Physical Requirements

  • Light physical effort.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use hands and arms.
  • Must be able to see and hear and speak frequently.
  • Ability to use repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding.
  • Must be able to occasionally walk in the facility.
  • Ability to occasionally handle average-weight objects up to 10 pounds
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk
